LOVELAND A moose that has wandered around Loveland and other nearby towns appears headed back to the mountains, and Division of Wildlife officers urged residents to enjoy watching the animal from a safe distance.
The division has no plans to tranquilize and relocate the young adult female as long as she behaves herself, said Tyler Baskfield, public information officer.
Tranquilizing and relocating such a large animal in the summer heat could harm the moose, Baskfield said.
She seems to be working her way along irrigation ditches toward the Big Thompson River.
Young moose away from their mothers for the first time sometimes wander around human dwellings trying to find a good area to hang around in, Baskfield said.
They show up once in a while, he said. They dont find the habitat they need, and they move on.
People living near Upper Hoffman Lake near McKee Medical Center spotted the moose Tuesday morning munching on fruit from trees.
Some residents said the moose was breathing hard and appeared to be distressed. Baskfield said she could have been spooked by people.
Theres usually a crowd around it, he said. That might stress it out.
I would encourage people to admire it from a safe distance, he said, adding moose can become aggressive if cornered.
Moose...bit...sister
Neither important nor particularly newsworthy, thus chat, but it's more pleasant than wars and Baskerfield is right, whoever he is, for a moose or a deer, or any critter that eats foliage or gargaby, around humans is a good area to hang around in.
Cheese
Tbhe moose were kind of missing last winter, but they are hanging around now. One of them bedded down in the garden last week. They make a mess of the hedge.
I do NOT want any cheesy responses to this series thread.
Isn't that from some C&W song?
Better a moose get a hand passing through Loveland than a lovehand passing through a moose....
This is a hugh development.
I wonder if the moose is logged in.
