Make up and acronym for politicians who joined the military just for their political career.

Well it started with this, We have a word for fake republicans called RINO.

We need an acronym for someone who joins the military just for the political points. The people like Kennedy, Kerry, Carter, Murtha, and this clown need some kind of name tag so we know who we are dealing with. This technique is very common now and taught in college political science classes.

THEN ALL OF THESE POSTS POPPED UP SO i MOVED IT OVER HERE.

WINO - Warrior in name only

I think we should reserve that one for the Hawks who didn't have the balls to serve themselves.

Just as an alternative point of view, is it really fair to denigrate military service, even if it is done to enhance a political career? After all, the US Army commercials explicitly state that employers are looking for the qualities that military veterans learn in the service. That's actually talked up as a reason to join. Should it make a difference if the job is one in the political realm?

Even if you join the military for political reasons you can still die an honorable death doing it as Joe Kennedy Jr did so I would not disparage their service.

This does not mean that I give them a free pass afterward but to heap scorn on their service seems rather wrong.

MINO works best. They do not represent a military mindset and are quite vocal against our troops. Some knowingly lie to the press and congress about our troops during wartime.

Some had minimal service yet exaggerate their claims. Some wear medals beyond their ranks.

When you list the politicians, you include Kennedy. If you're talking about John Kennedy, I have to disagree. While Kennedy always had political ambitions (at least after Joe was killed in WWII), there were far safer areas than working a PT boat.

I do believe that there was significant scrubbing of Kennedy's record to make him palatable as a candidate. He lost his boat by being run over, and in the Navy, losing a boat is considered a bad thing. It was a major undertaking to make the embarrassing loss of a boat into a major military achievement, but with the help of the press and several book publishers, it was accomplished. However, Kennedy, whether a good sailor or bad, put himself in harm's way, and did not grab an easy, behind the action assignment. I have a lot of problems with the Kennedys, but John Kennedy served in WWII, and did so legitimately.

I understand the sentiment, but I'm reluctant to start this up... Anyone who joins the armed services, puts themselves in harm's way has my respect FOR THAT.

If someone becomes a politician, their views and proposals are all fair game - we don't have to smear their service - that ultimately can backfire. On the other hand, their service should be no cause for deference in going after them on political grounds.

Kerry was so lame on his own merits, that he should have been defeated by 60-40% or better. Unlike some here, I think the Swiftboat attacks didn't do our side any good - it just turned some people off.

This is the case of someone who opposes/doesn't care about the effort but joins up for brownie points.

Also see Al Gore's Senate Hearings on the music industry (which parallel's the Keffauver hearings about comic books, that led to Keffauver getting a Democrat ticket nomination over fellow Tennessee Senator Al Gore Sr.).

That "Reagan conservativism" side of Gore has disappeared. Now we are told that the big issue is the environment (as he claims he has always claimed).
