Don't blame Wisconsin. The woman is from Illinois.

< IANAL>
Whether or not the injury is genuine, I wonder if the suit could be a way to milk (or bilk) insurance; e.g., if the parents' homeowner's policy pays the award in the suit?

What a lovely, upstanding, warm family.

I'd like to spend Thanksgiving with them.

Think they'd invite me?

$75,000 sounds a lot like a homeowner policy limit of liability. It's quite possible this is collusion between the parents and the daughter to cover medical expenses and pick up some spare cash. Insurance companies are very skeptical of claims by one family member against another (try collecting if your wife backs into your car), so a legal case would probably be the way to solve it. In most instances, health insurance picks up injury claims, but it's possible the health insurance company would try to recover from the homeowner's policy also. Health insurance also seldom covers lost wages. In any event, there's more to this story than the story that's printed.
