I am seriously thinking about getting kittens right away (even if the wife says she doesn't want them) when Musica joins her sister and many of the beloved mentioned on this thread.

I won't be home (most of my work is on the road 4-5 days a week) so my vote isn't the strongest -- Mrs. Freedumb is the vote that matters. But something tells me it may be the best way to deal with her loss.

I think that is a great idea. It really helps. But make sure you get at least two. When the last of our first cat family died, we went out and got 3 to keep the 1 newer cat (that we got when the 2nd to last died) company. Never regretted it. Here are their pics:
