I tend to think this question should be split into categories of QBs. I would opt for a least a passing QB and a running/option QB.
In my view Wuerffel is clearly the best passing QB in college football history and it is not even close. Ty Detmer put up almost as good stat, but in the WAC.
As for the running QB, I like Frazier alot. But I also like Jack Mildren and others.
Tommie Frazier was a STUD!
I liked Tommie but he was better when his name was Turner Gill
I dont know he could run people over! I loved it! :)
Kne Dorsey was a hairs breath too..beat FSU then got screwed by the BCS and then gets screwed by a bad call that nobody outside of one offical saw
You cannot leave out Doug "Immaculate reception" Flutie.
I liked Tommie but he was better when his name was Turner Gill
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know it's a college list, and I know a stupid Notre Dame coach kept bringing him in off the bench as a 2nd string QB. But I remember those games, and remember seeing the greatness there every time he came in -- It's just a stupid coach that kept him from playing,
Because he was not only GREAT, but also had about the best QB name that ever could have been invented -- Joe Montana!
Best college QB ever?I could not agree more.
Frazier. The best pure mix of blood-and-guts poise under fire and sheer athletic beauty. The leader of the great Nebraska teams of the mid-90s (with the '95 edition being the best of all time) had equal portions of toughness and excellence, enabling an observer to view Frazier as a physical specimen who also gave it the old college try. The fact that he destroyed Wuerffel--another player you could identify as both a performer and winner of the highest order--in a head-to-head matchup for a national title is the reason Frazier gets the nod.
The 1994 Orange Bowl was the worst officiated game in the history of organized sports. If even ONE of the bad calls that went against Nebraska did not happen, Frazier wins 3 in a row.
Drew Brees was the only Big 10(1) QB that I saw on any of those lists. With all the homogenization of college ball, you'd think some coaches up there would figure out the forward pass.
