Ah, warm and fuzzies, thanks.

That's a lot of work for one meal-changing the dishes 4 times!
That will not happen in my house.
One paper plate is all one gets. LOL

I know what you mean. It seems obsessive. Many moons ago I went to France and met different groups of French in different settings. It always seemed to take FOREVER to eat. I guess that's the strategy, they wait for "the 20 minutes or so" for your stomach to trigger it's not hungry, then you stop eating the carefully crafted, delicious food that you're nibbling on in small portions.
This German girl I knew at the time and I concurred, the French eating style also meant you always felt like you were STARVING!

Precious graphic. Reminds me of my girls. ;)

I would not do well there I fear, but then I probably eat too, fast. ;)

Isn't it a lovely picture? It is a painting and there was no credit given for that beautiful work.

It is an amazing place! The largest hotel/casino in the world(6,000 rooms), and Disneyland all wrapped into a mountaintop.

Well, it's a lovely, cool, and mostly sunny morning. Less that 24 hours till I'm sitting on the luxury bus, speeding towards the airport.
I want to say what a great pleasure it's been being a member of the Lair. Bentfeather, learning to dabble in poetry here was not only great fun, but it was a great opportunity to find a new form of expression. The last few months I've spent living here in The Dump were getting easier to cope with every day, but still were reliably unreliable.
Writing poems helped channel a lot of frustration and I really appreciate your The Dragonflies' Lair threads! (and links). Thanks!
Here in Taiwan it's not so easy to have a phone line, you have to have a two year contract, and ending it is a big annoying deal, so I should probably do that today since the bus leaves at 9:00am tomorrow (yeah!)
So I'll make this my final post for a while (or nearly my final post!) As usual, when I move, I'm always surprised by the number of little nick knacks you have to look over and at least decide if you still want them or not! So I have enough annoying little bits to pack/clean to keep busy for the rest of the day (not much time for Freeping!)
So, good luck to everyone, I'm sure everything will be smooth sailing. I am looking forward to having some setup where I can Freep and share pictures, but it will take a couple months for me to evaluate the best ways to do all that.
Since I'm leaving Taiwan a bit earlier than I planned, that means I won't be coming back to Taiwan again for nearly 9 months! (yeah! yeah!), I'll be in Thailand mostly that whole time.
So if I don't blow back into The Lair for the first two months or so of that time, you can be sure that I will be back for most of the remaining 7! 9 months! Longer than I planned, but just the tax refund offset almost my entire budget for the trip (because it's damn cheap to live there, I mean real, real cheap), so I can say that's better than a kick in the head with iron boots!
Well, I best run now, at any moment I'll unplug my DSL connection and give it back to the telephone company. Best of luck to everyone in the Lair and we will cross paths again in the not too distant future!
warm regards,
starbase

May the road fall away before you
and the sun share your road
may you sleep with grass for your pillow
under a moon of silver gilt
and always find another horizon to explore
until we meet again.

At a discussion on mental health at work today, some of the folks were trying to define the expression 'repression' As in repressed emotion or wants. It got me thinking, and this is the result. How would you all define it (in a poem of course!)
Behind the Veil of Polite Madness
Silent screams of battles fought in a hidden mind,
and even the quiet eyes speak not of whats within,
and no one really knows the true fury set loose again,
for nothing can make ripples in the exterior they find.
Right rages with wild wrongs in that old song,
and bright are the flashing of the mental swordplay,
as dreams and desires are forged or held at bay,
entwining until its hard to say which is which or wrong.
Caged by conventions and the expectations of others,
the savage heart rails at unions of flux and stasis strange,
longing for the veldt or humbling mountains to range,
to run until the soul is cleansed of things that smother.
Howl in rage behind the silent mask of civilized man,
burning in chains of fire and ice scaring the psyche,
hollowing out the world hidden beyond what they see,
to the rolling drums of a heartbeat only forever can ban.

It has been our pleasure to have you with us. We shall miss you, but rest assured, we know you will return.
May good fortune
ride with you
may your sunsets
always glow
and may you walk
under starry skies
and hurry back to us
in our little paradise.

Thank you so much! Another 'framer'!
When I get settled in Thailand I'll frame both of these and hang them in the foyer. Along with my favorite Bentfeather poem:
the humble servant
brews bitter potions
sweetened by humility

Ouch! Minor snag. The exchange rate jumped in the last month and I didn't notice! Shaved a grand off my earnings!
Doh!
The tax return added two, the exchange rate took away one. Funny how that works, isn't it? I guess the trick is not to add one and take two!
;-)

Oh, I am so pleased you enjoy the haiku. It is an especially good haiku.
You are going to be very happy in your new home
memories hung in frames upon your new walls
as a good harbinger for your home
laced with memories of happy times with FReepin' FRiends.
I shall hold the lamp out for you
to help you can find your way back into the Lair.

Ut oh, a grand?? Yikes, that does hurt.
Have to save for the little farm in the states. ;)
