Phone use spans time of team party
In the middle of a Duke lacrosse party where a dancer said she was gang-raped for 30 minutes, a call was placed from her cell phone to a Durham escort service.
The 12:26 a.m. call to the service, Centerfold, lasted one minute, according to a copy of her cell phone bill reviewed by The News & Observer. It is unclear whether the call was a request for another job, a cry for help or something else, or even whether the accuser made the call herself.
But the accuser's phone records add some details to the chronology of the March 13 party, a drunken spring break bash that spawned a national controversy.
Neither prosecutors nor defense lawyers would discuss the phone records Tuesday. Neither the accuser nor a second dancer at the party could be reached, nor could representatives of Centerfold. Police Chief Steve Chalmers was out of town; his spokeswoman said he would not discuss the case.
Three players have been charged with first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping: Reade Seligmann, 20, of Essex Fells, N.J.; Collin Finnerty, 19, of Garden City, N.Y.; and Dave Evans, 23, of Bethesda, Md. Lawyers for the players have proclaimed their clients' innocence and said no rape or sex occurred at the house at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.
District Attorney Mike Nifong, whose handling of the case has undergone national scrutiny, has been adamant that the woman was raped at the party. Nifong has not given a precise timeline of when he thinks an assault occurred.

3/21 Duke Chronicle article.
"Gottlieb said any man that attended the party March 13 would be a viable suspect but refused to go into further detail.
The residents of the house have been cooperative with DPD in locating any suspects, he added."
Gottlieb admits that the LAX players were cooperating. Also says suspects not clearly identified yet. Also admits non-students were at the party.
Now where are his notes?
I still think it's her cell phone.
If the bartender served an under age Finnerty, might he have taken the fifth???
But then why not give him immunity?
Serving a minor may be a bigger charge than Collin's shadow boxing....
I think they absolutely should go back. There's no way I'd let a lying SOB DA and a two-bit drunken psycho whore run me off from my educational goals.
there is strong racist and CLASS discrimination going on around the country......bet most freepers didn't read about the 10 football players from the Fresno area who raped an 11 yro girl.......didn't think so....( then again, I THINK those players were black....the article didn't say but I suspect they were)
Hogeye, it was a tongue-in-cheek reply to a comment about the impression Durham was making on the country as a whole. If you follow back to the post I was replying to, you will understand. :>
I didn't have much problem with Susan's essay until the last sentence. I don't defend the lax players because they are white. I defend them because they are innocent. Nifong, with help from Jesse Jackasson, Malik Shabazz, the media and local loudmouths, made the case about race. The lax players had zero to do with that.
Two grown hookers who have been around the block more times than the earth has gone around the sun are hardly equal to an 11 year-old runaway girl.
"They will be labeled sexual predators for the rest of their lives."
As well they should be. They're animals. I hope they lock them up and throw away the key. They should be taken out and horsewhipped first.
I really think some are missing her point.
I agree with that, but I have read much worse articles about this case and Susan isn't completely wrong. She just doesn't understand WHY certain aspects of the case are different, in terms of race.
I saw it on MSNBC.
Given the brevity of the call, she may have reached voice mail.
So very true. And, even when they have a reasonably full grasp of the facts, they STILL do not connect the dots. They just rattle about what happened that day, instead of put it together with other, previously discussed information.
Bleached.
Mangum is a blonde; every man's dream.
MSNBC showed their mugs shots.
They're black. The race of the child wasn't stated.
Is there any way this prosecutor can be destroyed or disbarred for this seemingly wrongful prosecution and smearing of these boys?
NOT the Duke LAX case. ;)

DURHAM -- Former N.C. Central University Police Chief McDonald Vick had extramarital sexual relations with a female officer, then paid her $25,000 to drop a harassment claim against him, according to federal court documents filed Wednesday.
The documents allege that Vick, now campus police chief at the University of Kentucky, had admitted to NCCU's vice chancellor of human relations and equal employment that he paid off the woman in question.

I think you are on to something. I smell government corruption and blackmail.

DURHAM -- One of the men accused of killing a Durham teen last week on Gray Avenue had succeeded in eluding authorities since last September, when he failed to show up for meetings with his parole officer.
Judge Elaine Bushfan ruled Wednesday that Darien Taylor, 20, would be held without bond on charges that he murdered 17-year-old Joseph Towah.

Police said he is "a documented gang member" with a history of successfully eluding arrest.
In December 2004, Taylor was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury in connection with a stabbing that left a victim "seriously injured," police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
Last August, Taylor pleaded guilty to the lesser misdemeanor charge of assault inflicting serious injury. He received a 45-day suspended sentence and 6 months probation from Bushfan, according to court records.

Duke Defendant Guilty of Noise Violations
AP
(06/27/06 - DURHAM) - One of the three Duke University lacrosse players accused of rape appeared in court Tuesday on a noise complaint and was found guilty, even though a roommate had been acquitted of the same charge.
(snip)
Durham District Court Judge Elaine Bushfan ordered Evans to pay $110 in court costs and entered a judgment that means no conviction will appear on his record if he has no more violations.

This Blackamericaweb.com is a radical black racist blog. I hope it is not reflective of the black community in Durham.
