Call adds mystery to lacrosse case (DukeLax)

Phone use spans time of team party

In the middle of a Duke lacrosse party where a dancer said she was gang-raped for 30 minutes, a call was placed from her cell phone to a Durham escort service.

The 12:26 a.m. call to the service, Centerfold, lasted one minute, according to a copy of her cell phone bill reviewed by The News & Observer. It is unclear whether the call was a request for another job, a cry for help or something else, or even whether the accuser made the call herself.

But the accuser's phone records add some details to the chronology of the March 13 party, a drunken spring break bash that spawned a national controversy.

Neither prosecutors nor defense lawyers would discuss the phone records Tuesday. Neither the accuser nor a second dancer at the party could be reached, nor could representatives of Centerfold. Police Chief Steve Chalmers was out of town; his spokeswoman said he would not discuss the case.

Three players have been charged with first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping: Reade Seligmann, 20, of Essex Fells, N.J.; Collin Finnerty, 19, of Garden City, N.Y.; and Dave Evans, 23, of Bethesda, Md. Lawyers for the players have proclaimed their clients' innocence and said no rape or sex occurred at the house at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.

District Attorney Mike Nifong, whose handling of the case has undergone national scrutiny, has been adamant that the woman was raped at the party. Nifong has not given a precise timeline of when he thinks an assault occurred.

She really needs a voice. She must have smoked for 60 years or more.

In true liberal fashion, Susan doesn't bother to inform herself of the facts in the Duke case before she starts spewing her bilge. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny.

Did Hannity have anything on Duke tonight?

With all the talk of phones, let me forward my wild theory or possibility - Kim calls 911 - the 911 system picks up no information from Kim's phone.

Kim is on the Lam, she's using a fake name, she lies to Police - I wonder if the cell phone she used was modified (and maybe stolen) to provide anonymity ?

The Police spokesperson said the 911 system should have provided information from the caller.

Liberals never bother with facts. Only hysteria.

Thats right, they never let the truth or facts get in the way of their feelings.

The police do not always get roadmaps so easily. The Duke boys didn't give them statements. They don't give roadmaps to the police. They never talk to the police without having their own lawyers present.

That's a damned lie. The defense should demand a retraction.

Hell, the lies start in the first sentence....

no Bob Bennett on board to spin the press.

If he was supposed to spin the press (NOT) he has did a piss poor job. I guess she forgot he was related to one of the lax players.

Fullest versions of the defense side on Finnerty so far :

http://www.newsday.com/sports/lacrosse/ny-usduke0712,0,4246055.story?coll=ny-main-bigpix

Bonnano (testifying for Finnerty) said he first encountered (accusers) Bloxsom and Herdon after sneaking into Third Edition, a Georgetown bar. He said he bumped into one of the men while dancing by himself on the dance floor. He said he apologized, but they responded with "something derogatory." . .

After trying unsuccessfully to engage Bloxsom and Herdon in a fistfight, Bonanno said, he and D'Agnes turned to walk away, leaving Finnerty behind. When he looked back, Bonnano said, he saw one of the men hit Finnerty in the back of the head. After rushing to his defense and landing a few blows, he said, they decided to leave.

http://www.heraldsun.com/durham/4-751786.html

A Duke classmate, Nicole Cobble, and co-defendants Daniel D'Agnes, 20, and Patrick Bonanno, 20, testified that Finnerty never threw any fake punches and that he and Bloxsom were equally involved in the incident. . .

"(Collin) was nose to nose and chest to chest with another guy," she said. "They were shouting and insulting each other. Both were using profanity and both were insulting each other equally."

(snip)

According to Bonanno, the incident started when he bumped into Bloxsom and Herndon while dancing at a bar. Bonanno admitted he was the one who actually struck Bloxsom.

(Certainly worthy of the attention of two US attorneys and two full court days, hundreds of hours of surveilence, 6 months probation, and the threat of 6 months' sentence in the DC jail . .)

That's my understanding regarding school attendance at any level. Once charged, the student is suspended pending resolution. The high school kids in most states are absolutely out of luck because there are no alternative schools to attend (lack of funding). They are, therefore, left to GEDs in order to finish their high school educations. The only way I can think that Colin and Reade can continue their educations is on-line.

I don't think either of them would be unable to find work through their fathers' or alumni of Duke. I would think there are intern-types of positions that would enable them to work and attend school (on-line). That's where the community support will be all important.

As to a comment posted somewhere up-thread, it is true that had Colin been sentenced to serve time, most black inmates would be very aware of the possibility of the AV not telling the truth. Most of my son's supporters were black, knew of the family background of his accuser and were fully prepared to pack the court room and testify to the unstable family (brother institutionalized, etc.). In great part that conviction on the part of the black youth in our neighborhood and the accuser's neighborhood (she was bussed into our district due to our desegregation program) contributed to the total breakdown and death of the policeman I told you of on another thread.

It was a total tragedy all around -- as this is. There were no winners -- only losers -- when the dust settled.

Yeah, it was great. Jeff said what I've been saying -- it goes on all over this country all the time -- whether you want to believe it or not. Jeff said Nifong should drop the case. Woody Vann said Nifong has dropped unwinable cases in the past -- there's nothing in this background to indicate he wouldn't here. Jeff said Nifong is too heavily invested in this case politically to ever drop it.

That's pretty much what I've been saying. It's the race card played and now nobody knows what to do about it. Pretty picture, huh?

Well, somebody had better find out who was on the other end of that call and find out who they were talking to. Then it's a done deal in my opinion -- which, by the way, is worth about 2 cents -- but I know I'm right. :-)

Lord knows some of these TV people will believe anything since they haven't kept up the way we have. Yet they continue to go on TV as if they know facts.
