We´ll see an exciting game, Beckmann predicts. I guess he´s right this time.
And a yellow card!
Not a good call by the ref. Didn't think he would get sucked in.
The Frenchies certainly are floppy.
But not a bad either - the ref was alright to give the penalty, though he didn´t have to.
I don't think it takes a ref to see that the French player was totally untouched, and took a dive to draw the foul...
Make that two yellow cards in 12 minutes.
Flopped like Divac!
Well, one of the camera perspectives shows that the knee definitely touched the thigh. If it was enough to make the Frenchman trip, I don't know.
The 20 second delay is just too long, but you can sure get a feel for quality commentary on BBC.
Is it over? Annoncers keep saying the first to score....wins.
Rooting for Italy. I think Zidane is a great player, but I can't stomach rooting for the French!
"Is it over? Annoncers keep saying the first to score....wins."
That is only a statistical truth, as when two teams with very disparate levels of skill meet, the better team usually scores first AND wins the game.
If two teams that are roughly of the same quality meet, that rule doesn't apply. Just look at the Germany - Argentina game.
Argentina scored first - Germany won.
Italy scores!!
Also about Jesse Owens and the 1936 Olympics--I find it interesting that his individual achievements are hyped beyond belief but that Germany itself dominated the games. They won a ridiculous share of the medals. No one ever seems to mention that.
Not one of them there p**sy penalty kick goals.
I figured it had to be something like that since they kept playing.....and I actually enjoy it when sports statistics are wrong. :-)
Good for the match that Italy just scored. Cancels the debatable penalty.
The penalty vs italy was as credible as any Italy have benefited from in the tournament. So it all evens out.
"I figured it had to be something like that since they kept playing.....and I actually enjoy it when sports statistics are wrong. :-)"
That's the problem with statistics: A game like Argentina - Serbia-Montenegro, where Argentina not only scored first, but dominated the game 6-0, skews the statistic. And there is a great number of disparate games like that in the first rounds of a World Cup, which contribute to the overall statistic. But here we see two teams of roughly the same caliber. Totally different situation.
