Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)
It was running when we had an electrical outage, that shut it down. I woke up this morning and my computer shut itself down to download some security somethingoranothers. It is on it's third attempt as I type.
I've got five words for you: FAHMonitor
LOL
Here's the error:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000b'
Division by zero
/fah/fahmonitor.asp, line 506
My laptop is only connected to the internet when needed. I remove the PC wireless card when not surfing, etc. Could that be causing the error?
Also, I have it set for timeless WUs and to pause when on battery (but it's usually plugged in). The timeless WU setting results in always having a full queue of pending WUs waiting to be crunched. When a WU is finished, FAH sends the unit back and loads another in the now empty queue slot so that the queue is always full.
The results of the error seem to be that my stats for that system are not completely loaded and calculated.
It's not a big deal to me, but I thought you would want to know. Let me know if there's anything I can or should do.

It's a result of weird data. You had a project starting on 7 May, and then another project starting one second later for that same machine.
I deleted the first project (the one second duration) and it fixed the issue.
I don't think we'll see that very often.
Thanks for pointing it out!
"You had a project starting on 7 May, and then another project starting one second later for that same machine."
hmmm - that sounds like about the time I reconfigured FAH to timeless WUs so it wouldn't waste time trying to download a new unit when not connected. If I'm right, then that was when the queue filled up for the first time.
Thanks for the quick fix - you're awesome, man.

"Our electricity went out...again!"
Ouch! Well, look at the bright side - your electric bill won't be as high this month, LOL.
Series, I hope your staying cool. The current heat wave over most of the country is dangerous without A/C. Sorry you lost that WU, but staying cool is more important.
Are the servers still down? I see that my last unit went in yesterday, but I have yet to download a new unit. Is it my problem, or everyone's?
Only a couple of the servers are assigning work units.
Something is still seriously hosed at Stanford, but at least the servers are now accepting workunits.
Thanks. Just checking. I was all set to hit 10,000 pts. some time in the next week or two. Oh, well.
Even with the stanford hiccup on the servers, this is on track to be our best month ever, with over 1.5 million points posted. We lose a few folders, but those we gain, make up for it, and more.... the recent newcomers, are just simply awesome. We take two steps back, and three steps forward. Positive momentum.
We've moved up to #78... #75 within the week, I predict, #50 for the team within 3 months, and I've broken the top 150 users, and hope to crack the top 100 within 60 days.
I got a freebie in July (was able to run systems, and didn't have to shutdown everything), and August is going to be "bat out of hell month", here on the borg ranch. It's a shame none of y'all live near by, because if you did, I'd invite you down, to load FAH on the new systems we're putting in this summer.
December 23rd, I'm going to pull up one of the archives, and compare where we were, 23December, 2005, and 23 December, 2006... Once up a time, wasn't 3000 team points in a single day, a milestone, and hitting the top 1500 was a major hurdle?
So... the point.. break out them bullwhips, and beat the *ell out of them cpus troops. We can see the top of the hill.....
btw.. what ever happened to that "other team" that thought that they were going to whup up on us? Where'd they go?

and just as a side contest... who will get to 3 million points first... The DU team, or Klutz?
I'm behind about 250,000... but the last weeks worth of projections, have me hitting 3 million points in 50 days, them, in 52 days.
Not that it matters a bit, in the scheme of things, but it's fun nevertheless.... A guy has to have some goals in life eh?
Fooey. If they can't get us work units, I'm going to reboot to my linux hard drive [which doesn't have FAH]. How about someone posting a nice big notice here when things start working again?
I have had trouble the past week apparently. I didnt notice until Friday. The laptop is set to get deadlineless WU and it has not been able to connect for some time now. I switched it over to standard WU but GROMACS cores cause the laptop to crash everytime.
In other news I am buying parts for 1-3 new computers. I will wait for the AMD price drop this week for the CPUs. Already recieved some parts but the hard drive was DOA and had to be RMA.
Whenever I have problems with a machine not being able to get new work units, I remove the config file (client.cfg), run the thing, configuring it with the same information, and it works fine thereafter.
I think it has something to do with reassigning it to a new download server.
Thanks for the tip. It worked like a charm. Now I have to remember it.
