Stanford University's Folding@Home Stats page ^ | 7-7-06 | soccer_maniac

Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)

Yeah, right.

You are just teasing the rest of us.

Won't be passing you by for awhile now. Most of my machines are in St. Louis and there is no power there. The soonest I can bring them online will probably be Tuesday.

Anyone else get slammed by a monster WU, p2124_lambda_5way?

Two of my three machines have been slapped with it. My daily production has dropped to 118! Painful man, painful.

It's looking like another zero point day, which is pretty odd. It appears to be a deluge of 2124s and 2125s. Usually I get a variety of proteins, but not this time.

Standford is making major network changes, and many of the servers are offline, not collecting completed workunits, or dishing out workunits.

Luckily, it affects EVERYONE, so even if our points are down, so are everyone elses, and everyone else is down.

I was at #12 in 24hr average points produced before the changeover, and I'm at #11 now. So even though my PPD total is down about 8,000.... so is everyone elses.

Wish they'd hurry up and unfuzzle this, as I added 90 more machines today, and only 10 of them were able to get workunits.... AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.....

"Won't be passing you by for awhile now. Most of my machines are in St. Louis and there is no power there. The soonest I can bring them online will probably be Tuesday."

awww, what a shame.  ;^)

Series, I hope St. Louis (and the rest of Mo.) get their power back soon - it's HOT out there.  I don't think you have much to worry about as far as most of running away with the points while you're down.  It looks like most all of us are getting some monster WUs (2124s and 2125s) that will take days to crunch.

Klutz said that "Standford is making major network changes, and many of the servers are offline, not collecting completed workunits, or dishing out workunits."

So we are all just slowly grinding away.  If you time things just right, maybe you'll get back online at the same time they do and you might get a bunch of small fast crunching WUs while we're still stuck on these monsters.  (hmmm- some guys get all the breaks, LOL)

Good Luck on getting your systems back up.   Stay cooool.

" I added 90 more machines today."

YEEEOWSER - fantastic, the Klutz is back.

Look, up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane.  No, it's Klutz, Super-Borger.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  It's Klutz, Super-Borger, Master of all Borgs.

Da-ta-da             Yea!

(Just thought you could use some cheering up while Stanford makes major network changes.)

OK--what I want to know is how you got a new WU when I can't even send mine in because the servers are down. Are you sure it didn't just start over on the one you had? [This delay is killing me.] Argh!
As an aside, the one WU I ever lost [p1152, which was 4 frames from completion] got zapped because I did an alt+ctrl+delete restart. Power outages don't zap my WUs. A computer freezeup doesn't zap my WUs. Restarts don't zap my WUs. Nothing zaps them but alt+ctrl+delete. So I don't do that anymore.

Help!

I'm running the XP console version of folding, 504b.

It is accessing my hard disk twice a second, reading c:/Folding/work/logfile_03.txt

Is there any way I can reduce disk activity? Would really help me out if I could stop this.

http://forum.folding-community.org/

It should only access the disk at the start/end of a WU and when saving a checkpoint. Check here for a solution. I'm off on vacation (Yosemite)in 5 min otherwise I'd help more. Perhaps someone else will assist.
