FR Folding@Home Project Update -- We're in the Top 85 of all teams with 8.3 Million points
Stanford University's Folding@Home Stats page ^ | 7-7-06 | soccer_maniac

Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)

Thanks for the kudos. I'd fold for Team AnandTech if I wasn't folding for "The Gipper". If you ever want to switch, just remember 36120

I would, but I've been part of various Team AnandTech distributed computing teams for years now. I'm one of the lynchpins, so to speak. If for any reason things change, you folks are certainly tops on my list!

What's AnandTech? Is it a tech forum?

How about splitting your daily 1,345 points between the 2 teams?

Based on their radar, their position (#23) is safe (up or down) for at least 8 months

Yes, it's a tech forum. Great resource for hardware reviews and info on just about anything computer related, in case you ever have a question: http://www.anandtech.com

I thought about splitting my points, and I'll consider it. Most of the boxes aren't readily accessible. Seeing as how I don't have any threats on the team (the only members with greater production are already ahead of me), I'll go ahead and switch my main work PC over today, at least for a little while...

Is Stanford down?

Anyone else get slammed by a monster WU, p2124_lambda_5way? Normally I finish one every 2 or three days, but this one is going to be 9 days with 20,000 frames. There better be a more than a few points given out.....

Yeah, that one's a bear. I just finished one on my kids' Sempron 2800+, and even my overclocked A64 3400+ has been folding away on one since mid-day Sunday, and is still only 68% complete.

I believe it's a 396 pointer, but it looks like Stanford's down at the moment so I can't confirm that.

You're correct, it's 396 points. We seem to be averaging around 80 points/day on it.

No points for two reporting periods. Stanford must be down.

A hearty welcome and shout out to our newest folders,

DumpsterBaby
IslandJeff

Thank you very much for folding on the FReeper team!

I'd like to give a shout out to my big brother shurato, who is currently folding for us. He's a good liberal, who joined when I asked him. I didn't tell him the nature of the team for whom he's folding, but I assume he's figured it out since. He's currently up to 222 on our list. Does that make me a bad sibling? :)

uhoh - me, too. I got that one early am this morning.
It's only 43% done, so that's about 86.32 ppd according to your FAH monitor.

Gee, I really like what you've done with the stats - outstanding. Thanks.

Behind LTCJ by 732 as most of the WU are large ones. Just wait another 2 days and I'll probably turn 2000 or more points (wishful thinking) and finally pass you by for good, but stay just one or two positions ahead of you as they are getting more spread out as we move up.

JCEccles you are playing catch up quickly, luckily you'll never catch me (and probably not LTCJ, but within a month or so the three of us should be right in a row position wise.

But enough of my ranting for a few hours.

I've had two machines off-line for two days. My father's died completely and I've persuaded him to replace it with a state-of-the-art desktop and a laptop (connected by wireless LAN). I'll create admin accounts on both and stoke up the folding programs there.

I've got to get my linux machine folding again, maybe tonight. Then if I can figure out what is wrong with my father's old machine, I'll slap a small hard disk in it and set it up as my second linix folding machine.

I could be averaging 700-1000 points or more per 24 hours inside of a week.

Shurato's been burning up the three-digit hinterlands like wildfire through dry grass. It's good to see him folding for the white hats.

My slowest machine is chewing on that one. It will finish...in 18 days.

Tease.

With the drop in AMD CPU prices, I think about upgrading every day. Perhaps at the labor day/back to school sales.

Well, I had to dump two completed WU's tonight, and start with a fresh load. I played around with them and waited 5 days, but finally gave up. I hate to see the 500 pts go down the drain, but I need to keep running. It was the dang GUI version on both. Seems all my problems have come from the GUI. No more !

I just sent in my first WU for Team Reagan. The dreaded 2124 no less. The good news is I should have 2 more A64 3200+ boxes to add to the fold within a week. One to replace the one I moved from Team AnandTech, and one more for FreeRepublic.
