It is just nice talking about it without being given the tinfoil hat.
It is after all something that did occur in our nation's history.
Our history is not rosy--heck, no society's history is without its black marks.
OTOH, it does provide both present and future leaders a lesson --if only we learn from the past.
He who controls the present controls the past. And he who controls the past controls the future.
You think someone could get the new Presidente de Mexico a history lesson as to how FDRs plans got us out of the great depression and maybe he could implement something similar there so that they are not all crawling up here.
One would think.
Then again, Mexico is clearly not as industralized as we are. Nothing against them, but their economy is based a lot on tourism, oil, and agriculture.
When the stock market crashed in 1929, we were extremely industrialized--that gave FDR a bone to work with when crafting our bootstrap out of the Great Depression.
Yes he did come up with the TVA, CCC, WPA, etc. but the fact that we still had heavy industry meant that while our economy took a severe hit, it wasn't a total loss.
It isn't like we can bomb and rebuild Mexico, either...unless that is the way to stop the illegal immigration...carpetbomb the southwest desert and rebuild it?
We simply can't afford to destroy Mexico, nor continue to let in illegals.
What we need to do IMO is instill some urgency in the Mexican government to do something about it--not including tossing their problems to us and expect us to solve it for them.
Personally, I like Michael Savage's idea to the situation--in addition to building the wall, we really ought to demand a free barrel of crude oil from Mexico for every illegal they throw at us.
With oil prices at the current level, I think the Mexican government will be sick of sending free oil northbound and will seek to solve the problem on their end--if only to stop giving away their oil...
Had Sheriff Joe not wanted to make a local political statement, he could have demanded oil for humans that he just dumped off at the border last night. I guess the man with the armored vehicle doesn't know how to negotiate fuel for his unnecessary contraption.
I know...
OTOH, illegal immigration is still a serious issue nonetheless...8^)
Well, back to another nap.
Nope. It's a Machivellian charade that's being exploited on both sides of the aisle.
These politicos realize the importance of the minority vote--and Hispanics in particular. They will pander, grovel, and politically whore themselves to these groups, if anything to get them more votes--which in turn keeps them in office.
What's required is a series of flagrant acts of democracy. Citizens cannot be afraid to stand up and draw the line. Politicians are going to back off things if they learn it's going to cost them a hugh share of the vote.
As dirty and convoluted as this system is, it's the best we have, and thus it's really up to us to take the ball and run with it...
You're back from hibernation!!
