"Why don't they just have open season on these gators and rid society of them"?
Yeah right, Florida would cease to exist if they offed all the gators. Just like the lower forty eight states ceased to exist when they hunted the wolves to near extinction, and Africa has ceased to exist since they decimated the lion population and kept the remaining ones in government parks.
