It's not like the old days here on FR..we must have lost many major newshounds for some reason. I used to be able to come here after reading just about any dramatic, funny or intriguing headline to discuss it, and find a thread in progress. No more. Where'd it all go?

No more. Where'd it all go? It was all an illusion.
Thing is, I've been seeing it longer than you.

They're still there. You just have to dig through a lot vanities (like this one) to find them.

It's Sunday, on a long holiday weekend. Things are usually purty slow around here on such occasions.
That reminds me, I gotta get off of here and get the barbecue going!

Between certain crazy aunt in the attic threads (read:crevo), proposed ban lists based on a mythical white van carrying snipers around Washington D.C., 'darkies' comments regarding immigration, and several other instances, they tend to get lost. They're around if you look. But I agree, things are different. Part of a price to pay for gaining in popularity, I suppose.

If there's a news item you think needs to be discussed, post it. Maybe laziness is the problem.

FWIW: There's a belief by some that if you say anything that could even loosely be construed as inappropriate (in terms of criticizing GWB) that you get suspended or banned or named anathema. I've seen this mentioned on other conservative web sites.
Another deterrent to posting, I think, is our collective eagerness to jump on each other's case. I know there's a wimpy sentiment about being able to disagree without being disagreeable, but around here it sometimes seems the only way of disagreeing is by being disagreeable.
Not that I'm ever that way. :)

It's hot, we are on vacation, sometimes it is a slow news day, there is no election on...we'll be back. But yes, you are correct, headlines are missing from the discussion.

I used to love this site as a source for breaking news. As a story developed, you could come here and updates would be posted as new stories/topics. Unfortunately, the duplicate post nazis have ruined this aspect of the site; to see updates to a story, you now have to scroll through thousands of posts to the original story. Personally, I consider my time too valuable to scroll through 3000 posts from the Pajamahdeen in the hopes of finding one update to the original story. It's much easier just to look elsewhere.

It's different now? You mean you don't appreciate the dozens and dozens of endless crevo and WOD threads and the incessant yakking about Ann Coulter?

Posting waxes and wanes with the yearly seasons and the political seasons. As November approaches the posting will pick up.
FR is still the best place to start surfing.

Your perception is correct. Back in '98 when I lurked, this place was like the wild, wild West. Then Jim decided to go along with the idea of Moderators to clean the site up. With that cleanliness came a certain 1950's feel. Some of the old posters migrated to Liberty Post. Others got banned for being too outrageous according to the new rules. The reason it looks oddly sanitized is that the old posters were incredibly competitive about being the first to post the news. Sometimes duplicate threads were a blast, as they went off on different tangents. It was fascinating to watch as people got mean and meaner and then called each other on it. In the end, the most sane and rational won the argument, but not without some nasty posts. Very wild. Incredibly freeing. Much fun. Sadly missed.
