Its time to celebrate our great nation's independence yet again. Hopefully we will all take a few moments to reflect on how far we have come since our country was founded, the freedoms we hold so dear, and how thankful we are to live in the land of the free.
What are some memorable 4th of July vacations or events that you have enjoyed?
Where are you planning on travelling, and what are you planning on doing for the 4th of July this year?

I don't see the pipe or the open vessels. You mean the thing that looks like a small grill, and the little basket?

Now these guys look like the barmaid's just arrived.
Hazaah! Pass the beer!

Like I said, drinking and smoking and sex were key parts of Dutch society during the Golden Age.
Had Art History (Renaissance to Modern Art) last fall...8^)

The boy smoking the pipe is on the far left side, about halfway up. He's right next to the window.
The silver vessel lies at the ground about a third of the way in, and the woman is holding another open vessel.

Just returned from picking up the girls from the Dayton airport, from their Myrtle Beach trip.
Looking back now, I am SOOOOOOOOO glad I did not go with them!!
Originally, it was because (1) I didn't think I could spare the money at the time they planned it about 3 months ago(I did NOT have my 2nd job yet), and (2), becsuse I did not desire any more ill treatment from Brenda(she has been treating me a lot bettter lately).
But NOW.........I realize the REAL reason I did not go, although I had NO IDEA of it at the time.
Had I gone, even if things had gone perfectly smoothly on vacation and all, I would NOT have gotten the amplifier I did Thursday night, and it would have slipped into the dump, and I would not be getting ready to make a posible $1500-2k or MORE, from it!!
And around here, that is NOT "chicken feed". True, I would have never known about what I had missed........but missing it would have been SO sad!! But ,this is often how God works in my life.He has things work out in such a way, that I can't understand it at the time, but later on, I am happy they work out that way. The amplifier I got (and would have missed if I had gone on vacation) is one example, and so is me not getting a job at Alamo tv, which i thought would have been a great job...and I NOW realize I would have NOT most likely worked out there...........and probably missed the opportunity to get the jobs I have now-the best paying jobs I have ever had!!
The Lord REALLY DOES work in some VERY mysterious ways!! And sometimes, we can't understand why at the time, but later on are SOOOO glad he does!!!

OUR DAILY BREAD
July 2, 2006
The Cloud And The Spirit
READ: Exodus 13:17-22; 14:19-20
The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way. Exodus 13:21
The Lord led the children of Israel by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21). Commentator Arthur Pink draws a significant parallel between this cloud in the wilderness and the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.
Pink points out that just as the cloud was a gracious gift to the Israelites, so the Holy Spirit is a gift to the trusting child of God.
Jesus said, I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper (John 14:16). The pillar of cloud was provided to guide the children of Israel. So too, the Holy Spirit leads the Christian. Jesus said, When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth (16:13).
Even as the cloud remained with Israel in the wilderness, so Jesus promised that the Father would send the Spirit, who would abide with believers forever (14:16). Think of it! God Himself dwells within our hearts. We who know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are temples of His Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).
When we are led by the Spirit, our lives will be characterized by love, joy, peace, and self-control (Galatians 5:16,22-23). We will be effective witnesses for Christ as we travel through the wilderness of this world. Richard De Haan
Blest Holy Spirit from above
With all Thy quickening powers
Come, shed abroad the Saviors love
And that shall kindle ours. Watts
The power that compels us comes from the Spirit who indwells us.

Have to give communion to my ill relatives later today.
Supposed to storm this afternoon. So I'll probably be working on my computer.
My Mac OS 9.1 upgrade didn't go well (using SheepShaver). But I'm able to run 9.0.4 (came out December 2000)
OTOH, I'm able to play several games that I vaguely remember from grade school (e.g. Super Munchers, Sim Tower, etc.)
