Bush's fake gasoline shortage
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_spt_s1_d.htm ^ | June 30, 2006 | self

Americans pay some of the highest wholesale gasoline prices in the world. Don't believe me, go here. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_spt_s1_d.htm Look for prices in Rotterdam and Singapore, before taxes. The price being twenty or so cents higher in the US, as compared to Europe or Asia, is for a reason. US laws make the US formulations, unusual by world standards, less popular with non-US refineries. Refiners in the US face reduced overseas competition. Windfall, at your expence. It doesn't cost that much more to make, but they can charge more because of the artificial shortage. I'm getting tired of hearing about the refinery shortage, the problem is continual law changes.

I run my car on a mixture of avgas and urine. It gets 400 miles to a gallon between rest stops.

The fact is the American people aren't even close to slowing down consumption, regardless of the prices.

That is not a fact, nor true. Changes are being made. Have you made no changes in how you view fuel consumption as you did two years ago? Will fuel economy be a bigger part of your decision to purchase your next car?

I created the following chart from the data at Energy Information Administration, U.S. Gasoline Supplied. The blue is the actual amount, the purple is a running average to make trends easier to see. Even with our growing economy, demand has diminished. I combine more trips and plan my week better than I used to; don't you do the same?

The engineers must be in charge.

LOL! that we are. also, we're a private, family-owned company, the largest private-owned engineering company in the world. that cuts out a lot of the bureaucracy.

Your argument is completely bogus. The prices for Rotterdam and Singapore are for Gasoil. Gasoil is not even close to the same thing as gasoline.

It would take an act of CONGRESS!

You know! The LAW MAKERS for major changes to be made.

IF Congress does make the changes then PRESIDENT BUSH will sign it into law.

How long has the fight been to drill in ANWR and whose fault is it that we aren't doing it yet? The Presidents?

Actually, what you'll find is that there is no shortage of gasoline. Supply exactly meets demand, every time.

Amazing how that works.

I would be in favor of doing away with the designer blends. Bush didn't impose them, as you should know. But I can gather that if he decided to do away with them, you would support him. Thats good, because if he decides to do away with them, there will be a firestorm from the environmental lobby, as you probably know. He'll need some tough and loyal support to get this past them. Hope you'll be there when we need you. Do you remember the criticism he got when he suspended the requirement after Katrina? It'll only get worse.

Maybe you would also be in favor of drilling closer to home, to take OPEC out of the picture, and to reduce the transportation cost. That bill is working its way through congress right now, to open up the coasts to drilling, and to open up ANWR. It doesn't take much new oil to offset OPEC's attempts to manipulate prices; most new oil coming on line is non-OPEC oil, so I assume you'll be happy about that too, as I am. They've just opened up a couple of new pipelines out of Central Asia (non-Opec), a new pipeline out of central Africa (non-opec), new pipelines are headed out to the Pacific from Siberia (non-opec).

And we're trying to get permits to build some new nukes, which reduces demand on at least natural gas. You'll probably be happy about that, too. I know I am. Anything that helps to deliver non-Opec energy to the market is a good thing, in my view. Its hard to convince the anti-energy crowd when its time to permit a new refinery, or pipeline, or power plant, or even a windfarm for that matter (you'd be surprised at the flack you get from environmentalists over a windfarm), sometimes you almost think the environmentalists are flacks for Opec.

the so called refinery shortage.

Carribean refinery would need to,
figure out how to make Bush's blend #75,
charter a ship, just in time,
arrange for pipeline transport, etc,
to get the product into the four US
counties, for the two months it is saleable.

not going to happen

result, artificial shortage
