Bush's fake gasoline shortage
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_spt_s1_d.htm ^ | June 30, 2006 | self

Americans pay some of the highest wholesale gasoline prices in the world. Don't believe me, go here. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_spt_s1_d.htm Look for prices in Rotterdam and Singapore, before taxes. The price being twenty or so cents higher in the US, as compared to Europe or Asia, is for a reason. US laws make the US formulations, unusual by world standards, less popular with non-US refineries. Refiners in the US face reduced overseas competition. Windfall, at your expence. It doesn't cost that much more to make, but they can charge more because of the artificial shortage. I'm getting tired of hearing about the refinery shortage, the problem is continual law changes.

Did you ever notice that the farther the location is from the middle east the higher the price?

They must charge to deliver that stuff. Higher in La than in New york... Higher in LA than in Rotterdam...Higher in Rotterdam than in Singapore.. who would have thought it.

Those oil tanker ships must charge to deliver the stuff. And damned if they don't seem to be charging more the greater distance it has to travel.

Hell next you'll be telling me ti costs more to fly from new York to London than it does to fly from New York to Chicago... NAH... That can't bet true.. It is all Bush's fault.

What shortage? Plenty of gasoline available. Don't like the price? Drill ANWR, drill off the coasts, oil shale, oil sands, approve of nuclear power plants, etc.

If you are refering to Conventional Gasoline prices in New York Harbor, U.S. Gulf Coast, Los Angeles, Rotterdam (ARA) and Singapore, these do not include our some of our more restrictive requirements. This is Finished motor gasoline not included in the oxygenated or reformulated gasoline categories. Excludes reformulated gasoline blendstock for oxygenate blending (RBOB) as well as other blendstock.

Greasepaint, your post is totally dishonest. The headline is your OPINION. What you linked to is a table of spot prices -- spot prices which fluctuate just as all markets do.

So exactly how is this President Bush's fault?

Quit buying gas and the shortage will turn into a surplus real quick. The fact is the American people aren't even close to slowing down consumption, regardless of the prices. Until that happens, nothing will change. Like most of our problems today, you can lay the blame squarely and collectively on the American people themselves.

Bush's goal, is reduced competition.
Reduced competition, increases refining margin.

A refinery in the Carribean, will not be
able to figure out how to make
Bush's blend #75, and get it into the four
US counties for the two months its needed.

So how exactly is Bush faking a gas shortage?

The same way he faked the X-Box shortage right before Christmas!

It doesn't cost that much more to make, but they can charge more because of the artificial shortage.

First of all, not Bush's problem nor his fault. The reason you have "designer gas" is that it is demanded by morons in the EPA, who have been strangling American oil production for fifty years. And yes, it does cost a lot more, because it has to be trucked in from the refinery that makes it, not necessarily from the nearest refinery. If there is a scheduled shut down for maintenance at California refinery, that state-mandated designer gas must be made somewhere else and trucked in further. If that refinery has to retool a line to make "California special blend #114", that cost drives the price up.

The air is cleaner today than it has ever been, and that STILL isn't enough for the EcoIdiots. You want to blame somebody? Blame them!

Not THERE!

"Bush's blend #75, and get it into.."
Phony. The eco-nuts require the boutique blends, not Pres. Bush. I guess you are some sort of tin foil hat Halliburton conspiracy loon.

The EPA, another nasty Nixon legacy, should have been shut down in Reagan's era. They pass onerous regulations so they can monitor every aspect of our economy, thus ensuring their paychecks. The hundreds of billions that this parasitic agency has cost the US economy is staggering.
