(Myrtle Beach-AP) June 28, 2006 - The rock band KISS is now pitching coffee in Myrtle Beach. The first KISS Coffeehouse features KISS Vanilla, Demon Dark Roast and Rockuccino.
Band members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons greeted hundreds of people Tuesday to mark the opening. Their appearance did not include their trademark makeup.
Fans started lining up at 6am to meet Stanley and Simmons, who weren't scheduled to show until 8:30pm, according to KISS' website.
The two band members drove up in a stretch limousine and shook hands with fans as they made their way to a news conference and receiving line.
Some fans drove from as far away as Colorado and Oregon and one came all the way from Poland.
The KISS Coffeehouse is hardly a bohemian hangout for arty types. It's a shiny silver and neon building flanked on either side by giant platform boots.
Stanley says Myrtle Beach was the best place to start the business.

I was in Myrtle Beach on Monday and drove right by the place, but had no idea of the band's connection. I thought it was just another club.

I was there for the grand opening. The family is here in Myrtle Beach on vacation and happened to be at the place where the Kiss coffeehouse is located. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were signing everything from album covers to women's thighs (it was a family atmosphere so presumably no naughty bits were autographed). At 11pm there was still quite a line. We watched for a bit through the front window. There was at least one person outside dressed up in Kiss gear and makeup who was posing for pictures with fans. It was a bit of a surreal scene.
We head back home on Saturday to the Ithaca area. Don't know which highways might still be closed then from all the flooding. Best wishes to all in the Twin Tiers and other areas affected.
