The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Between the heat and the varmints, I ain't had much gardenin' luck this summer. Somethin' is eating the pepper plant as well. Nana says they're "little white lice."

I have no idea. Will Sevin kill it? I've sprayed 'em a couple of times.

Yeah, it's on the label. You might have to keep re-applying to catch the new hatchees.

When we were coming home from going out to eat for Matthew's birthday yesterday, the Bixby high school time and temp sign said it was 109 degrees.

The blowing wind felt like the heat that comes off flame, you know...like a jet flame.

Matthew got an xbox game, an OSU plush blanket, a $50 Patriot Bond (EE) and some books. We at pizza (I had anchovies)

Yup. That's usually how it works. :-/

At least it isn't over a hundred degrees though - like poor 2J is having to endure.

At least I can stay indoors...the poor Asplundh guys are supposed to be here to cut the tree away from the powerline this week. I am prepared. I have everything for a cooler-full of soda and bottled water ready to be put together for them.

Be careful of sevin...it's good stuff, but avoid blossoms because it kills honey bees too.

Good point.

Although, Rebecca actually got a bit sunburned at the beach this weekend. It's amazing.

You don't ~feel~ the sun here like you do in Florida, so you can pick up a sunburn and not even know it.

God bless those poor fellas. It's a hot, sweaty job even on cool days.

You're good people, 2J.

Heh heh! It's like I told Steve, though...it's only a few weeks of extreme heat and a few weeks of bitter cold. The rest is just normal seasonal variations. At least to the Gulf Coast girl...

Mornin'.

Just once I'd like to get a decent night's sleep. I don't know what's wrong with me lately.

Heh heh...Steve says he'd pat me on the back if my own arm wasn't in the way.

Ha hah ha!!

Just kiddin' but just barely. I feel bad for outdoor workers...I remember when I measured houses for the tax office in Texas...sometimes it was miserable and people were amazingly kind.

Take a Benadryl before you go to bed...have coffee ready in case it really hits you hard.

It knocks me out and it's cheap.

Simply Sleep by Tylenol is just another name for Benadryl.
