Hello. I was thinking about trying the Linspire OS.
It looks pretty neat but I'm not willing to shell out the dough if fellow Freepers think it sucks.
Let me know what you think.
TIA
These guys can tell ya.
You might try Vector Linux,...blazing speed for a browser....has Mplayer for Multi Media....
Do you have old gear or brand new?
Tell HIM that.
< |:)~
Thanks,....sorry about that.
I have a 2 Year old home made PC with a 2 GHz AMD CPU and 1 Ghz of Ram and an All-In-Wonder Video card with 256 MB of VRam
What motherboard...nvidia ?
Do you have PCI cards for sound and ethernet,....or do you do dial up?
Printer interface?
Fedora can get bloated, but it's also among the best-supported distros out there--and it's free for the download.
Ditto. I've been running it since Red Hat, I think it was version 7. Rock solid and as you said, very well supported.
I have never tried it, sorry... I'm using Mepis 6 RC2 right now... I had some problems with it but have now found a fix... install Mepis 6 RC2 and then install "hwdata" from synaptic.. works like a charm.
ewwwwwwww
If i were you i'd go with Mepis, PcLinuxOS or Ubuntu... maybe try all 3 they're free... distrowatch.com Mepis 6 FINAL will be out in a week or so...
Mepis 6 uses the Ubuntu pools/repos... :)
I've tried Knoppix, don't like it.
Burned a CD for Puppy, and another, Debian,Mepis or another.
I couldn't get my comp to open either CD or the ISO files..
Bummer.
I've pretty much made up my mind I'm going to get a Mac when I replace my comp.
Tired of the viri, spyware, trojans, etc.
Let me know what you do and how it turns out.
What kind of computer do you have? do you have your computer set to boot from cd? I have installed mepis on an old T21 thinkpad... no problems and it even automatically setup the wireless(obviously I had to insert my WEP key) but it configured the hardware. Are you burning the ISO correctly?
Speaking of burning ISO images...
I'm currently in the process of building a DVD iso that contains multiple LiveCD images. It boots up to a GRUB menu, and I can choose which Live CD to boot up from there.
I'm up to 9 (I think) different distros, and the DVD is only half full. They range from a floppy-based distro, to a full-fledged 700MB distro.
I haven't decided yet what my next distro will be.
Vinnie here is a free burning app, burn the iso's at like 4x to make sure everything goes ok..
After you download a linux distro MAKE SURE that you check the MD5SUM...
you can verify your MD5SUM with this MD5SUMMER
