One of the most interesting reactions I got to my column on Ann Coulter's vicious personal attack on the New Jersey 9/11 widows was, "Why does Ann need 'evidence' for her opinion? The left doesn't need 'evidence' for making ridiculous claims against the president of the United States in the media."
So if they can make false charges, why can't we?
Coulter charged, without a sliver of evidence, that the widows enjoyed their husbands' deaths. Such a charge, as Coulter knows, being a lawyer, is not only false but defamatory. The widows probably won't sue because Coulter would use the controversy to sell more of her books.

But it's not playing into the hands of liberals for conservatives to hold conservatives to a high standard. It's gratifying to note that conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough asked, "…is it not true that if conservatives don't come out and condemn Ann Coulter for making these type of statements, they're guilty of the same—the same offenses that Democrats were guilty of with Michael Moore?" He was referring to how leading liberal Democrats refused to condemn Moore's anti-American film "Fahrenheit 9/11."
A guest, conservative talk-show host Michael Smerconish, responded, "I think you're absolutely correct. And in my own small corner of the world, I've attempted to put Republicans, conservatives in particular, on record about her." Every conservative Republican politician he contacted, including Senator Rick Santorum and Rep. Curt Weldon, condemned Coulter's remarks.

The evidence is clear to anyone with eyes or ears.
These widows basked in the publicity they received, beaming with joy as they held hands with John Kerry and John Edwards.
No World Trade Center widows capitalized on their victim status more publicly and vocally than these women - and they were obviously loving every minute of their fame.

The answer is it is her OPINION that they are capitalizing on tragedy and becoming poster idols for a partisan attack. How do you make up "opinion" positions unless you don't really subscribe to them?
These 5 women are not representative of all 9-11 widows. The left is LYING when they try to stretch Ann Coulter's statements to paint everyone who received a check with the same brush.
One of them is even running for office now. As is Nick Berg's dad, a man who blames President Bush for his son's murder but still has doubts about Zarqawi and took no relief in Zarqawi's death.
Ward Churchill called the people in the WTC on 9-11-2001 "little Eichmans" and declared that they were not innocent victims. What does THAT say to 9-11 widows?
And then there was Ted Rall who drew a cartoon about the 9-11 victims' families cashing in with big payouts.
But Ann Coulter is savaged louder by the left for her comments than either the right or the left over Ward Churchill and Ted Rall's positions.
The left is lying again. They could give a rat's ass about the families. But they know that flyover country does care.

If she had said "expoited" instead of "enjoyed", she would have been more on target and less open to attack from the left....

There are two meanings for the word "enjoy" in my dictionary.
The second is "to benefit from" as in 'he enjoyed good health'.
Ann had it right.
These maroons just don't know English.
Someone else always does, and they're always good ones to add to the collection.
It seems to me that such parsing doesn't help win an argument. We all remember when Klintoon was reduced to, "Depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."
We're still laughing about that.
