I Just Saw the Coolest Thing (But Loose Lips Sink Ships)
My own eyes | 6/21/2006 | By Laz

Posted on 06/21/2006 11:02:00 AM PDT by Lazamataz

I just saw what (I believe to be) is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

But because we are at War, I won't compromise our security by sharing it -- TODAY.

Watch this space tomorrow and I will share with you all what I saw.

It was too cool by half.

I saw what looked like Air Force One land at Dobbins ARB. It was a civvy jet (VERY rare to touch down at Dobbins), it had the blue-white markings, but was missing the Presidential markings. It was, however, escorted by a trio of combat-ready fighter aircraft (one to each side, and one chase).

I now speculate that there were one or more dignitaries flown in to Dobbins ARB to see the Lockheed Martin C-5M Super Galaxy Making Debut Flight, and they were in the Air Force One-alike.

It was truly something to behold. I am used to seeing fighters and C-130's, but to (however briefly) believe you saw Air Force One is to have your breath taken away.

Certainly I saw one of the replacement / alternate aircraft, and when coupled with yesterday's big air-event -- the maiden flight of the Super Galaxy M -- a person has to believe some Very Important People were on that aircraft. It was, indeed, too cool by half.

To cool, by half of course ;-)

BTW, was it escorted by F-16s, F-15s or F-18s? That *might* give a clue as to who was on board. Surely it wasn't escorted by Raptors. That would be way cool by three-fourths ;-p

Now ya'll know why I was reluctant (until later yesterday when I determined it could NOT be the REAL A.F.O.) to say what it was. I won't tip the President's location to any asshat Islamic with a Scud in his VW minivan.

Nice pic! I just noticed Mount Rushmore. It must have been a site to see one of the Presidential aircraft, I envy you.

Pretty cool - nice pic, too. I'm sure one of these days you will see the real AFO, hopefully always bearing conservatives!

Use your x ray vision to find those muslim bastiges and beat them down with your extreme power! Then you can keep us posted on the President's movements.

It must be hard to fly around saving the world and surf FR all the time!

Thanks for the update.

No, it was not escorted by Raptors. The air cover seemed to be provided by F-16's. They were too small for F-18's, plus, from my angle, I could only see one tailfin. That also counts out the F-15.

I could see toys mounted under the wings of the F-16's, though. They were loaded for b'ar.

Cool! BTW, my wife is an Air Scouts Reservist (Areo-Medical). She drills at Andrews AFB and has some really cool pics of AF One (and has occasionally gotten stranded on base because they seal up the base when the Big Guy is embarking).

I was watching a documentary about 9/11. They talked about how important people were whisked away to secure locations. One of the employees at the airport where Bush (or maybe Chaney) was rushed on to AirForceOne and immediately given emergency takeoff clearance said that AF1 tookoff and instantly went nearly straight up.
He said in his 30 years as an employee he had never seen an aircraft of that size gain altitude that fast. He said the plane was as close to vertical as could get.
He said it was almost like a cartoon or trick photography. It got to the end of the runway and just pointed itself straight up.
