A 49-year-old Iowa woman sunbathing at an Oxnard, Calif., beach was killed when a police SUV drove over her head and continued on.
The two unidentified police officers had stopped atop a sand berm to check on a swimmer, and once satisfied, drove down the berm, and ran over Cindy Conolly. A witness tried to flag down the police vehicle but failed, and then called 911, the Ventura County (Calif.) Star reported.
Conolly was staying in a nearby hotel with her fiance and several other family members in the city to attend Conolly's son's wedding, the newspaper said.
The District Attorney's Office and the Oxnard Police Department's traffic unit will investigate to determine exactly what happened and whether the officers broke any laws.

SUVs Gone Wild!
Better let Rush know about this, I'm not a 24/7er yet
Gives new meaning to this being "a head case."
This was a real sad one.
They were on the beach checking out the area.
There was a woman over a berm they did not see.
They ran over her head.
Another beach goer came across her.
She is dead.
The officers/woman's family are rightfully upset and last I heard there was no ID for her for a while.
Prayers for the family.
I wonder what would happen to me if I killed someone on the beach with my truck?
I wonder what will happen to the driver of the police SUV?
Perhaps she was 'loitering'.......
A tragic accident.
Rampaging SUV.
And one that was supposedly Friendly!
Traic accident though as well.
But still, SUV related.
Yes, and the officers involved and the lady's family will never be the same again.
Very sad.
Years ago I found a huge log and climbed up on it and laid on it like a sprawled out on my tummy to get some low back relief.
It was early on a winter morning and I was so content/peaceful getting a good stretch and some guy came up and poked me with a stick asking Ma'am you Okay? Man I jumped and laughed relizing he thought I was dead.
We both got a good chuckle.
Last time I laid on the beach.
Do they still allow people to drive on selected beaches in Cali?
I think on near Stinson and one for sure we use to drive on around Pismo Beach.
Reason I ask is a guy from Cali was up here driving around on the beach and Police let him know that that is not allowed in on our beaches.
(unless it is a service/police vehicle)
"I think on near Stinson and one for sure we use to drive on around Pismo Beach."
I believe there is a recreation park area south of Pismo for offroading, dune buggies, etc.
Don't know about Stinson. That is north of San Francisco, and I rarely go that far north.
Lifeguards and officers can drive on or near the beach.
They are supposed to look for people though.
I can't believe the driver didn't look down and over the hill where the car was before they just decided to drive.
