If you found any exe files under 2 weeks old, chances are they could be a virus.

Take any such file names and type them into google and see if they say they are a virus or not.

If they are, got to the processes as I mentioned earlier and turn ones off by that name and then you can probably remove that exe file.

Download AVG free and that should help as well if you have a better than dial up connection.

Sorry, I wasn't saying system restore service was causing the problem. I suggested trying it to FIX the problem. System Restore has security issues, I always have it turned off. In your case it may help. Have you tried replacing the keyboard?

Strange, since you are typing the letter E to me.

Try copying the letter e from any type by passing the mouse over some words.
Then when you need the letter e you hit (CTRL & V) and the e letter will paste for you in that search box.

I would say restart in Safe mode, but you need the net to ask google what a file might be.

If you have a second computer, you could go to safe mode in this computer and use another to do the google name searches.

If that isn't the case, you have to copy the letter e with the mouse.

Interesting that sometimes your letters are simply mapped to caps while at other times they seem changed at random.

Did you try the suggestion to reboot in safe mode (keep tapping F8 when you reboot, then select safe mode from the options). What effect does the caps lock key have? Can you try another keyboard, or it is a laptop?

its' going to involve 2 reboots

The first time, you need to hit F2 during the DELL (I'm assuming it's a dell) screen and enter the set up.

From there, you need to adjust the boot process to look at your CD-ROM drive first.

Save and exit and allow the machine to boot up.

Then reboot it again and hopefully it will come up.

There will be an option to do a repair reinstall if it's XP.

Good Luck!!
