Guys this is a propaganda piece from the California Charter Schools Association in support of Marcus Aguilar and his school. It was released on June 7, 2006 and it flew under the radar. Since I like taking news that have been thrown in the garbage, I thought I would share it with you. What is interesting is the press release are filled with lies and it tries to promote Mr. Aguilar and the make up of the school itself. This "press release also tries to blame us(even though it does not name us) for the dissiminating bad information and inflammantory information. There is a personal attack against Sandy Wells that he promotes and reports "biased" reporting. We have posted correct information from education web sited about the schools dismal academic career.
The Association encourages everyone to reconize that children are put at risk when threats are made to inflammatory and innaccurate reporting. The association is committed to ensuring that all children attending charter public schoolsn are not only receiving a high-quality education, but are able to do so in a stable enviornment. The threats against the school last thursday morning after a radio show reporter with Talk Radio 790 KABC appeared to the campus. According to the school, the individual failed to identify himself, and was observed by school parents taking pictures of the students. After the individual, identified as Sandy Welles, was asked to leave the campus in consideration of the children saftey, an unidentified person chased after Wells and confiscate the tape. Wells, was unhurt, subsequently filed a police report.
Last Thursday evening, school prinipal Marcos Aguilar called into the Larry Elder Show, during in which he apologized to the station and to Wells for the incident near school property. Aguilar assumed it to be a reaction to the saftey concern in the community on the alert against child predators. Given the fact the school is a public elementary school located in a dangerous neighborhood, Aguilar explained that the ongoing saftey of the elementary students is paramount
On Friday morning, the elementary school was a victim of a bomb threat that force the full evacuation of the school. The school has reported ongoing threats against it ever since.
The Association is encouraging the public,in light of the continued threats against the school,to keep the saftey of primary imprtance. The Association will remained focused on seeing that the school be held accountable under the lau for raising student achievement, and will work with its authorizer,LAUSD, to ensure that all appropriate infromation on the school is fairly and thoroughly reviewed, as it called for under charter law.
The Association is aslo encouraging various news outlets, namely certain "blogs"(hint, hint) to chick out the facts prior to publishing or posting any information. Over the last several days, statements made on several Web sites(hint, hint) and talk radio and cable news services have been proven inaccurate. These include statements that lead the public to believe that the principal ordered the attack on the reporter, that the school does not admit non-Hispanic student and the principal refuses to speak to non-Hispanic media.
Regarding these innacurate statements, which continue to be disseminated, the principal has spoken on the record to clarify these allegations and is available for further comment. A brief check with the Department of Education's web site will show that the school is serving a student population as nearby public elementary schools, including Black,Native,White and Filipino students. Furthermore, in appreciation of other cultures, the school offerers courses in Mandrin,Nahuatl and Tai Chi.
Prepare to Barf The Following are recent innaccurate headlines and reports and its principal Marcos Aguilar, posted on various web sites and cited by Talk Radio 190 KABC:
"Principal allegedly gave orders to "thug" who drove on the curb, takled radio man-World Net Daily June 1,2006
"(KABC News Reporter Sandy) Wells have previously reported that the school teaches sepratist ethics, admits only Hispanics-The Conservative Voice, June 2,2006

I have to agree with you

Why has the LAUSD done this? The Association has not done this either?
These include statements that lead the public to believe that the principal ordered the attack on the reporter, that the school does not admit non-Hispanic student and the principal refuses to speak to non-Hispanic media.

Minutemen Target Children: The Attack on Academia Semillas del Pueblo
"It was in this climate, and after a month of on-air harassment by the radio station, that KABC sent in a reporter to demand an interview from the Academia. According to La Opinion, the Spanish language daily owned by the LA Times, he walked into the charter school insisting that he would interview its principle. Told he had no appointment and that he would not be granted an interview, he then insisted on interviewing schoolchildren and their parents on school grounds. Refused permission by a security guard, he nonetheless persisted. "
"One report claims he was attacked by a crowd; another says a van drove straight toward him and a single driver cursed and manhandled him. Supposedly the driver or the van full of youth, depending on which version you read - then followed Wells, although the reporter got no license plate number. The reporter, who has nothing but his word and an obvious axe to grind, works for a Disney-owned station that takes migrant bashing to the bank whether the migrants are children or not. "
"After the threat, minutemen lurked in a café across the street, shouting slurs at the Mexican school kids and taking their photos. "
Or this one:
LA VOZ DE AZTLAN NEWS BULLETIN
http://www.aztlan.net/arson_threat_school.htm
"Academia Semillas del Pueblo is a unique school that is chartered by the LAUSD and teaches the Nahuatl language, and focuses on Indigenous culture, history and heritage. The school came under attack by racists after the Walt Disney radio station KABC in Los Angeles targeted it's founder and principal Marcos Aguilar about 8 days ago. "
Also here:
Hate Radio and the Attack on Academia Semillas del Pueblo
http://www.dissidentvoice.org/June06/Santos08.htm
"For a month, KABC in Los Angeles had focused an unrelenting attack against the school Academia Semillas del Pueblo. KABC is an ultra-right talk radio station that carries Bill OReilly and Sean Hannity, one that specializes in xenophobia and a thinly disguised hate-talk format aimed at the paranoids who think George Bush is a sell out liberal and who accuse Sen. James Sensenbrenner of not going far enough to rid the nation of Mexicans and other descendants of the indigenous peoples of North and Central America. Lets make it plain: these are minutemen with microphones, and with the billion-dollar backing of Disney. "
"And now the minutemen have launched an attack on lo mas sagrado -- the most sacred thing, our families, our children; the children they despise and who they demean with the term anchor babies. No human being would endure it. No one allows their children to be threatened. "
"Investigators from the Los Angeles Unified School District have refuted minutemen claims that the curriculum and practices of La Academia are racist and anti-white, and also refuted claims that the school has violated its charter. "
Here is some informnation on "La Voz De Aztlan" in english tanslation "The Voice of the Nation/Race":
The Nation of Aztlan, tied to La Voz de Aztlan disseminates the exact same propaganda that MEChA spreads including antisemitic propaganda. Believers in the Aztlan legend insist upon the indivisibility of "La Raza" and their common goals, one of them being the need to abolish the border between the U.S. and Mexico. There is a myriad of Raza college newspaper. Some are El Popo, Aztlan News, Chispas, Gente de Aztlan (UCLA), Voz Fronteriza (U.C. San Diego), La Voz Mestiza (U.C. Irvine) and La Voz Berkeley. It is not uncommon for the writers of these publications to refer to the U.S., as "AmeriKKKa."
This new article has no creditbility.
"Investigators from the Los Angeles Unified School District have refuted minutemen claims that the curriculum and practices of La Academia are racist and anti-white, and also refuted claims that the school has violated its charter. "

Just by looking at these scores they have definitely violated their charter.
I would like to remind everyone what is taught there at the school. This is MEChAs Constitution:M.E.Ch.A.'s Philosophy
The Chicana/Chicano sutdent movement has been plagued by opportunists that have sought to rechannel the energies of our people and divert us from our struggle for self determination. The educational plight of Chicana and Chicano students continues to be ignored by insensitive administrators. Overall, Chicana/Chicano junior high, high school and college pushout rates have risen since 1969, forcing many Chicanas and Chicanos to a life of poverty. These factors along with a growing right wing trend in the nation are combining to work greater hardships on Chicanas and Chicanos. New repressive and racist immigration laws are continuously directed at our Gente. Along with this, the current administration has started the process of dismantling Affirmative Action and Civil Rights protections. Just as Hispanics seeks to deny our indigenous heritage, so does Latino. The terms Hispanic and Latino further ignore our unique socio-economic and historical aspects of our Chicana/Chicano Gente. This cannot be ignored. We cannot coin terms for unity sake when these terms fail to fully represent our diverse communities.
Chicanismo does not seek to use the word "Chicano" as an umbrella term when representing all of "La Familia de La Raza". Rather, Chicanismo seeks to educate our barrios and campos about our history y cultura to further create a movement of self-determination for the Liberation of Aztlán, something that Hispanic and Latino has yet to represent or recognize. These factors have made it necessary for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán to affirm our philosophy of liberation (i.e. educational, socio-economic, and political empowerment) for our Chicana/Chicano Nation. We, as Mechistas, see the process of Chicanismo as evolutionary.
We recognize that no one is born politically Chicana or Chicano. Chicanismo results from a decision based on a political consciousness for our Raza, to dedicate oneself to building a Chicana/Chicano Nation. Chicanismo is a concept that integrates self-awareness with cultural identity, a necessary step in developing political consciousness. Therefore the term Chicano is grounded in a philosophy, not a nationality. Chicanismo does not exclude anyone, rather it includes those who acknowledge and work toward the betterment of La Raza. Chicanismo involves a personal decision to reject assimilation and work towards the preservation of our cultural heritage.
Recognizing that all people are potential Chicanas and Chicanos, we encourage those interested in developing a total commitment to our movement for self-determination for the people of Aztlán to join Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán. Thus, by all means necessary, We Chicana/Chicano estudiantes or Aztlán, dedicate ourselves to taking our educational destiny into our own hands through the process of spreading Chicanismo, in the spirit of carnalismo. M.E.Ch.A. is committed to ending the cultural tyranny suffered at the hands of institutional and systematic discrimination that holds our Gente captive. We seek an end to oppression and exploitation of the Chicano/Chicana community. As Mechistas, we proclaim that we are the people of Aztlán and that we recognize our indigenous unity with our brothers and sisters of Ixachitzlan (Alaska to Tierra del Fuego). We declare that we are the descendants of El Quinto Sol. Our fundamental drive is to organize and challenge Chicana/Chicano estudiantes to maintain self-respect and dignity to overcome historical prejudices and discrimination against the Chicana and Chicano Gente.
The historic mission of M.E.Ch.A. involves an educational plan of action that builds an educational ladder for the advancement of our people. Recognizing that the strength of our movement is rooted in our barrios, M.E.Ch.A. pledges itself to reach out to the community and schools, to establish new educational opportunities. We also recognize that our M.E.Ch.A. chapters are much stronger when they are rooted in and accountable to the Chicana/Chicano community. Consequently, We, Mechistas commit ourselves to return to our community and contribute to the development of the Chicana/Chicano Nation. The Challenge of the Future Despite growing repression and a lack of progress by our people in this society, we must be optimistic. As, M.E.Ch.A., we must accept the challenge to combat all forms of oppression, and manifestations as experienced through racism, sexism, and homophobia, both inside and outside of our Movement, in order to better develop a more meaningful educational plan of action (refer to Goals and Objectives). Advocating an educational revolution, we recognize that our bullets are our books and our victories are an increase in Chicana/Chicano graduates committed to our people's progress.
We, as Mechistas must dismantle the co-optation of Raza students from becoming "corporate Hispanics" claiming to be leaders of our community with no understanding of El Pueblo Chicano. Instead, M.E.Ch.A. seeks to train future community leaders to be consciously committed to serve the people of Aztlán. M.E.Ch.A. also supports Chicana and Chicano worker struggles to abolish economic and political exploitation. In the final analysis, we recognize that the destiny of the movement will be determined by each Mechista accepting responsibility for carrying the Movement forward.

Dr. Roy Romer
Los Angeles Unified School District
333 S. Beaudry Ave., 24th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90017
Dear Dr. Romer,
It has come to my attention that some questionable practices are occurring at the Academia Semillas del Pueblo charter school. Based on these reports, I am respectfully requesting that you investigate Academia Semillas del Pueblo charter school, which is a part of your school district.
As you know, LAUSD is the chartering authority for this school and so your district is responsible to hold the charter school accountable. You have full authority to revoke a charter under education code section 47607(c) if there are violations of the law.
Education Code 47607(c) states:
(c) A charter may be revoked by the authority that granted the charter under this chapter if the authority finds that the charter school did any of the following:
(1) Committed a material violation of any of the conditions, standards, or procedures set forth
in the charter.
(2) Failed to meet or pursue any of the pupil outcomes identified in the charter.
(3) Failed to meet generally accepted accounting principles, or engaged in fiscal mismanagement.
(4) Violated any provision of law.
(d) Prior to revocation, the authority that granted the charter shall notify the charter public school of any violation of this section and give the school a reasonable opportunity to cure the violation, unless the authority determines, in writing, that the violation constitutes a severe and imminent threat to the health or safety of the pupils.
Charter schools have proven to be very successful and I am in full support of them and their expansion. However, schools that may be abusing their authority and violating the law must be held accountable. I have also written a letter to Dr. Darline Robles, Los Angeles County Superintendent urging her to also investigate this school.
I urge you to take the appropriate steps as it is important to preserve the integrity of the law and not allow abuses to occur which ultimately hurts the students and the taxpayers.
Sincerely,
George C. Runner, Jr.
Senator, 17th District

A lot of typos, but no truly entertaining typso, here. Typso is an art form :-).
Thanks.
You're welcome :-). Some people are better typists than others - no big deal. The Typso Ping List is for errors of typing or usage that are vividly funny.
"Sangria" where the subject was "Santeria" was a good one recently, although I'm afraid the originator got upset because he didn't think we were taking Santeria seriously enough!
