The Dragonflies' Lair~Thread XXVIII~

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Baksheesh

To the Arab merchant, or the shopper in the Suk,
baksheesh is the grease that makes the deal flow.
Everyone expects it, the buyer pays the crook,
and another purchase takes place, as shady dealings go.

To get a seat, or buy a thing hard to find, or get,
a little on the side, does take the deal up to speed.
To get a favor, an advantage great, pay the price that fits,
for someone else will pay the price, their happiness to feed.

Never really asked, for but often subtly brought to mind,
a knowing wink, or rubbing fingers, are the ancient signs.
Bargaining is a challenge, when you have to add it in you’ll find,
just how bad do you want it, after standing in some line.

I was eating when you asked if I was. Now there's some company, family and a good friend. They say hi!

Echoes of Empty Empires

Along the ancient roman road
I wander down through time
and watch the flow of driven men
and all they struggle to leave behind
Empires crumbling under overload
lost from reason thought or rhyme
we’ve seen it happen time and again
and others record each loss they find

Nice piece! Did benfeather's post of Elizabeth Barret Browning inspire you to add more of a rhyming meter? I notice your other poems tend to be Romantic and story like with less of rhyming element.

Very impressive, I like it a lot. You watching The History Channel?? ;)

How is your recovery coming along?? Still a lot of pain in the knees?

I'm glad you're feeling better! I am being visited by the Lazy Poltergeist. The weather, which in Taiwan is really on again off again, is today PERFECT!. It's 10:00 am right now and the most sunny day with a cool breeze, and it's Sunday too, so I have the day off. I live up in this hilly little town by some hills and cliffs which line a deep river bed (the river is only truly full during rainy season, a couple of months a year, the rest of the time it is a rocky drain off area, but the rocks are a pretty white color, so it all looks quite nice)

I'm hopping between the big bay window and FR to chat, but I don't think I can focus on much reading right now. I think when the sun sets will be the perfect time to get poetic, I'm planning on reading then.

I the meantime I might stroll through the little pear orchards which are on the back side of the river bed.

Lovely description of your surroundings.
Ah, a walk in the orchards sounds grand.
Enjoy your Sunday.

I am thankful I could walk much better today with a minimum of pain.
