no doubt - wider tape = better high end

Yep, but they were much larger and nearly impossible to repair. Also, by the late 70s, cassette/deck tech had progressed significantly beyond what it was during the 8-track era.

18. IBM Deskstar 75GXP (2000)

Ahh, the Deathstar. I had one. It died. Luckily it died unspectactularly enough for me to recover the little bit of data I needed. Still a hunk of worthless hardware.

10a. ANYTHING by Ashton-HATE

I once worked for a company that had a relatively large database on some Ashton-Tate CP/M database. We were migrating to Compaq IBM-compatibles and I figured the easiest migration would be some PC produce from A-T. I called their sales number, got put on hold for hours. Now this was a pretty hot issue, so I couldn't just mail them a letter and wait.

So I'm sitting there working on something else for like four hours with the phone on speakerphone (on a toll call!), when I start to have to pee. So I yell to the secretary in the next room to come sit at my desk and watch the phone while I go. I get back two minutes later to find the call ended. Secretary says the guy came on the line says "Hello, hello" and before she can pick up the receiver he hangs up! I bought Alpha Four, the girl had to manually rekey the entire database, and I haven't used an Ashton Tate product since.

Few months later I say a news release with a typo where Borland supposedly bought AT for $4 (should have been $4 mill) and I'm thinking "$4 for AT? They paid too much."

Be that as it may, Air America ought to be on every "worst of" list just for general principles.

So what do you use then?

I tried switching all of my saved music/movies that I have on RealPlayer to Windows Media Player once but I couldn't do it.

Everyone hated the TRS 80 (trash 80) but everybody used one because they were everywhere.

Agreed. Hate PDF. You can do everything a PDF does with standard HTML. Without all the headaches and time wasted.

Iomega Zip Drive? What is wrong with them? When they came out, they solved a big problem storage problem for me...and I had no problems with them. I used them for maybe 5 years. I still have one at work, but it seldom gets used. Thumb drives, a USB portable storage drive, and CD-RW drives have taken their place.

The trick is to not load them to your player. Go through File, Open and Browse for the file(s) you want to play. I don't use either player as a library and I have many gigabites of music and some videos. I prefer RealPlayer over Windows Media Player and it does nothing to my XP system.

I've never had the slightest problem w/ Windows Media Player. And I really wanted to go with RealPlayer. But it just sucked!!!! As much as I don't want to admit it, I always choose WMP over RP when asked.
