Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 342 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 99th place (with 985 active CPUs - 39,500 completed Work Units and nearly 7 million points).

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 18 folding threads)

Excellent point.

BTW, your <passing nod> caught me by surprise and really cracked me up. I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes.  I really enjoy the sense of humor you and a lot of FReepers have and express here at FR.  Sometimes I set 'em up with a good straight line without realizing it.  And other times, I can't help but jump on a straight line that someone else posted.  It's a hoot.

Keep on foldin'.  8-)

I don't know much about Linux or the various flavors of it, but someone recommended MEPIS to me for an older system that I have.  I tried it and it installed very easy, found all the old hardware and my wireless network, and the setup was very easy.  It's now folding 24/7 and that's all it does, so I really haven't learned much about it.  It does use the K desktop, but you can choose Gnome (which I've never seen).

Here's a link to check it out:  MEPIS   Good Luck.

Not to worry--I figured it out. I've read good things about Mepis.

Good afternoon! I have Kubuntu installed, and I love it! I have a Firefox problem, though, and I thought maybe you've run into it.
I installed 1.5.0.4 this morning, and it runs fine except that:
It shuts down in preferences if I try to access the "Privacy," "Content," or "Advanced" tabs. [I'd really like to change fonts.]
Firefox also just shuts down when I try to set my preferences in some extensions [Tab Clicking Options is one].
Now, this never happened in FF in Widnows or in Mac OS X.

Is there a setting I need to change somewhere?

Problem solved. For some reason, the Silver theme [my favorite] isn't compatible with FireFox in Kubuntu. Sigh. When I uninstalled it, all problems with preferences ceased. Sigh.
