I really don't understand why it is that an athlete is thought to be a Saint in this country! I see this locally all of the time. When our college football or basketball stars commit crimes the fans and the media protect them at all costs. What is this all about anyway???

I don't know if the Lacrosse players are guilty or the woman is lying. But, I agree, it does appear that members of the "popular crowd" (athletes, actors, singers, etc.) are given a benefit of the doubt that a regular Joe doesn't enjoy.

Tired of Taxes
(That's taxes, not Texas. I have no beef with TX. NJ has the highest property taxes in the nation.)

Have you been following the case?
The alleged rape victim isn't sure of the identity of the men she says attacked her, the one she is sure of has a pretty iron-clad alibi. Witnesses who back up said alibi are beng threatened by the DA. The alleged victim has numerous inconsistencies in her various accounts o the alleged crime, and many other things I'm too tired to name, just do a search on the word "duke" here on FR for the other articles. For the most part, I doubt most freepers are supporting these boys because they are athletes, I think it is because most freepers believe that there was no crime here. Whether or not they are athletes is pretty inconsequential.

This is all about a Democrat DA pandering to a mob of race hustlers and screeching feminists. It is all about payback against privileged white males. The fact that they are athletes is just icing on the cake for the feminists.
What do you think it's all about?

I would guess that it has to do with when an athlete is accused of something it is the same as accusing the entire school of something.
At my school it is the complete opposite regarding the media. The school paper ran a long article about how they weren't allowed to look at public documents. They were in regards to a case that the DA didn't even prosecute. The headline read, "Morency (the tailback) Accused of Rape".
Not even what the story is about, and as I said the DA didn't prosecute because there was no DNA evidence and he could pass a lie detector test and she couldn't.
That is another reason athletes are protected they (at least seem) to be falsely accused more often.
