The Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block has picked former CBS series "Pee Wee's Playhouse," the channel said Monday.

The late-night network purchased the rights to all 45 episodes of Paul Reubens' quasi-children's show, which aired from 1986 to 1991. CBS cancelled the series after Mr. Reubens was arrested in an adult theater and charged with indecent exposure.

Since, reruns of the series have been rare. Adult Swim said many of the episodes have not been aired since their original run. Adult Swim will launch the series July 10.

Heh. This should be interesting.

I love adult swim. For good or ill, a lot of that stuff just slays me and even the serious shows are pretty darn good. MUCH better than most of the crap that passes as network television.

Oh, they best not mess with Sealab or the Venture Brothers!

New season of VB June 25. Just heard it on Adult Swim.

I must have my Monarch and Brock Sampson.

Do we let the legal system decide in a courtroom what's obscene and what's not obscene?

Um...yeah, we do.

What was the name of the lady who used to visit PeeWee. I remember there was a cowboy as well.

It's still Aqua Teen, isn't it, or have they changed the name? Actually, I haven't been able to catch it for quite a while.

Yes, it's still the Aqua Teens, I messed up.

Were the Ultra Teens the brother and sister on Super Friends who could turn themselves into an animal or thing and a type of water product, respectively? Or were they the Super Teens? In any event, I always thought it would be cool if the brother had said "in the form of a water buffalo" and the sister yelled out "oh, no, paradox!" and they blew up.

The wonder twins? -- "Wonder twin powers, activate!"

[Incidently, the artist of Superfriends (and so much more...) Alex Toth just passed away. Here is a link to the post here at FR in case anyone missed the sad news.]

I miss Adult Swim, unfortunately we don't have cable right now. Can't say whether I'd be into watching Pee-Wee or not, I never really thought he was that funny - too over the top after a while for me...

Kind of amazing that it was a kids show - the audult humor was right in your face. At the same time though, the old Warner Bros. cartoons were a scream too. I miss them.
