LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An exotic dancer who performed for Duke University lacrosse players the night of the alleged rape of a fellow dancer said in an interview the students behaved drunkenly, shouted racial epithets and made her feel unsafe.
In an interview published in the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, dancer Kim Roberts also said she did not know if the other dancer, an unnamed 27-year-old black woman, was raped but did know the woman was in such poor shape when they left that Roberts had to call police for help.
Roberts said the woman was "like intoxicated, drunk or something. ... She's barely talking."
The woman was taken first by police to an alcohol treatment facility and then transferred to a hospital emergency room where she was found to have injuries compatible to being raped and sexually assaulted.
Three members of the lacrosse team have been charged with rape in a case that has received national attention. All three have denied committing any crime.
Roberts told Vanity Fair contributing editor Buzz Bissinger she was originally told she would be performing at a bachelor party, where she assumed the men would be close to 30 or a little older. But when she arrived she realized the crowd was all younger men, some so drunk they were urinating off the porch of the house.
When they learned that the second dancer coming was black, some objected because they wanted a white dancer, she said. But the two dancers nonetheless danced for about eight minutes until a young man waved a broomstick in the air and made crude comments.
She said she felt overwhelmed and intimidated. "You have to think of two little girls among how many big boys? That in and of itself is intimidating. ...
"How is someone supposed to perform a show if they're wondering .... 'Am I going to have to worry about my safety?' Things were said that made me concerned for my safety."
She added that when she and the other dancer left, the players shouted racial slurs.
Yes...I understand..there's usually so many more women at these parties when STRIPPERS COME TO THE DOOR. What a bunch of sh*t.
She had to have a pair of rocks coming to strangers homes to dance near naked and then ask for money, especially looking like her.
Unsafe and intimidated is BS. Maybe she was intimidated by their much more varied vocabulary.
They usually come with a handler. Someone who stands off in the corner, collects the money and watches the crowd. It can be an off duty cop, a rent a cop from a security company or some gang banger with a gat. Why didn't they?
This interview will be used against them, imho.
I believe they did. I think the word is...PIMP.
So... women who perform house calls and dance naked in front of a house full of drunk men, generally feel 'safe'.
Huh! I grow more enlightened every day.
Crap. This is "the second dancer" she went to a public relations firm and asked for assistance to make money. Pls search FR Duke Lacrosse and you will find what a liar this babe is.
Yea, she'll be discredited so fast she won't know what hit her.
Yea, she'll be discredited so fast she won't know what hit her.
I would hope they play her original testimony compared to her prepared interview for sure.
We don't know the guys did made any bad comments at all toward these female strippers.
We do however do know the two women had criminal records.
We know in their own culture that many times their own men refer to them as bitches. So I doubt their language scared them unless they just used large vocabulary words.
If you go back on FR Lacrosse even to April all of you will see what came out originally and understand that all of this is crap. I would like to find out how much Vanity Fair paid her- shameful. Perhaps Drudge will have the $$ paid out to this "dancer".
So what if the college students made bad comments. These girls for strippers. Experienced strippers- my gosh what did they expect. I find the Vanity Fair and the MSM to be horrible in this story. All of the Duke lacrosse team is tainted. Have you all read the FRthreads about this- my gosh, some team players were on interviews all over the country at the time this happened and their interviews were cancelled or not pleasant. Can't get an interview for a job when they were graduating.
I was not in the bathroom when it happened, so I can't say a rape occurred and I never will, Roberts told The Associated Press on Thursday in her first on-the-record interview. But after watching defense attorneys release photos of the accuser, and upset by the leaking of both dancers' criminal pasts, she said she has to wonder about their character.
Roberts said she knows what it's like to sit in jail, and that she would never wrongly accuse an innocent person. If the boys are innocent, sorry fellas, she said. Sorry you had to go through this. But unlike her and the other dancer, she said, they have money to hire the best attorneys. If they're innocent, they will not go to jail, she said. But, she added, If the truth is on their side, why are they supporting it with so many lies? Roberts is bracing for an all-out attack, but said she's almost past caring. Don't forget that they called me a damn nigger, she said. She (the accuser) was passed out in the car. She doesn't know what she was called. I was called that. I can never forget that.
And no blood was taken?
