The same thing happened with Windows XP. When Beta 2 arrived, I found myself torn between what was new and good about the operating system, and what was new and bad.
Significant negatives back in 2001 included product activation (which doesn't affect Microsoft volume licensing customers), changes to the network-configuration user interface and the way XP interacted with other versions of Windows on small networks. Was Windows XP truly better than Windows 2000? It was a toss-up in many ways. In the end, I went with the improved app compatibility and user interface improvements of XP. But it wasn't by much.
Well, Microsoft just upped the ante on internal conflict with the release of Vista Beta 2. It boils down to this: The software giant is favoring security and IT controls over end-user productivity. Don't get me wrong, security and IT manageability are very good things. But some of the people actually using the Beta 2 Vista software describe their experience as akin to that of a rat caught in a maze.

Yeah, you would stop there, misrepresenting my position. I was talking about monopolistic practices in the OS market, in response to your post on that point. Microsoft retains its marketshare because its marketing agreements and market power penalize sales of PCs preloaded with anything but windows.
I think you know all this...who could be that ignorant? If I were arguing your position, I'd avoid obvious truths, just like you are.
What else are they going to put on PC's?
You don't know what other operating systems are available for PC architecture?
LOL
Go back to your Seahawks chatroom or your "I wanna be like GE" seminar tapes.
some companies sell computers with Linux walmart and Monarch Computer and others...
XP SP3 is actually in the works and is coming after Vista.
I was thinking more along the lines of a service pack for the entire Windows line, rather than just XP.
Could you please explain this i dont get it.. also the seahawks stink, DA Bears and Colts this year.
Linux may outpace Microsoft before next summer. Novell is releasing its next Linux Desktop OS, based on the SUSE platform this summer for home users. If it delivers, people may have no reason to wait for the arrival of Vista.
No, this is legitimate criticism from a PC centric source that is not intending to sell something other than their magazine. One of the newer definitions for FUD is "Fear, Uncertainty, and DISinformation"... since this comes from someone in the industry who's job it is to review Windows and Windows software and report on what he reviews, it is not DISinformatino.
These kinds of pre-reviews are really quite useless. MS has already said that the UAC stuff he spends so much time bitching about is going to be heavily revised before release, for example, so it's less intrusive. Really, more than half his complaints are what I would classify as UI issues rather than complaints about core functionality, and that's the most useless sort of complaint of all at this point, because the UI is the thing most likely to change between now and release.
Apple gives away iTunes to anyone who wants it. And I thought everything on Windows was so far superior to what Apple produces anyway, so why would you want any Apple software?
This is presented as opinion. FUD is presented as fact.
Did you even bother to read all 13 pages of the article? I doubt it.
Why. Vista has ZERO market share... it is not for sale.
I don't. Just pointing out that both companies are after the same thing, its called money.
Kind of odd for them to compare beta software to no-beta don't ya think? maybe he should have compared Vista Beta to Os X beta.
So you have neither iTunes nor Quicktime downloaded on your computer? I'm impressed. You take your distaste for Apple products to an impressive level.
I disagree, Senator. It is only through these pre-reviews that Microsoft can learn what issues are of most importance to their user base. (which is one of the purposes of Beta testing) This article points out some areas that need attention before Vista is shipped. Here is another, perhaps more nitpicking, critique:
65 More Windows Vista Mistakes
Some of these should have been handled long before this Beta2 release.
Quite frankly, Vista's opening in Peoria definately shows it needs a lot of work before Broadway.
