WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

It tickles me that I can make you laugh so heartily.

I can picture us going out for a beer, and me having you falling off your barstool before you even touched a drop!

the CSN cutlass was the STANDARD PATTERN British naval cutlass, with the "broad-arrow" replaced with "CN".

the CSN cutlass was, however, "locally produced".

i have been told that the CSN actually did buy some British SURPLUS cutlasses from the "left overs" from the Napoleonic era.

We will do that someday. I will endeavor to stay on the stool, though.

I suppose I need a clarification.
Do you desire to have a functional replica blade - in which case a modern replica of the British blade with a little cosmetic aftermarket modification will do...
-or-
are you looking for a materially and technically faithful reproduction of the (often brittle) local pieces (of junk, often enough) actually used by the CSN?

You know you're way too hooked on FR when...

...you bring the laptop out to the back deck so you can stay up with things via WiFi/DSL while tending chicken on the BBQ!

what i'm looking for is one that LOOKS authentic for carry by my "alternate persona", to wit the color corporal of Det 1, Co A, CSMC.

marine corporals carried cutlasses, rather than swords/sabers. SGTS & serving officers carried seemingly whatever sort of sword or saber they were issued, captured or "could get by other means".

ONE Captain, of the CSMC station at Savannah, wrote a letter to a cousin asking for the loan of $ 10.00 in gold to "buy a suitable used heavy French hussar saber, such that i might not be subject to the disapproval of my senior officers".

he wore that hussar saber throughout the WBTS, as it is mentioned in his records in early 1865.

Chicken is the first priority. When the smoke clears to where I can see the screen, I FReep. Is that okay?

I have to warn you. I'm not the scintillating conversationalist that I appear to be at download speed.

I'm actually ... usually ... dangerously quiet.

you falling off your barstool before you even touched a drop!

I will note for the record that in my recent visit to your neck of the woods I did not fall off any barstools. (I was protected -- there weren't any present.)

Well, actually, it would be more like this, of course.

This is just to give you an idea of what would appeal to me. I wouldn't expect you to actually render it just for me.

You would never be able to recoup your losses if you customized every part for every customer. Haven't you heard of Eli Whitney and why he took up gin?

Sionnsar speaks truth. Then again, it is difficult to fall from your seat when you are sitting in a booth.

so, ok... would a Brit replica with a little cosmetic engraving do the job?

OR one with the "broad-arrow" simply "ground off".

that, too, would work.

this wouldn't be that difficult, for a real katana's tsuba, actually. especially if the lion's share of the work was done via CNC mill.

that other image, tho... eeeeyeesh!
