WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Van Gogh went to a country western bar, got drunk met a girl cut his ear off mailed it to her then painted some crap.
If his painted crap is worth money then your well though out, logically engineered and diligently fabricated weapons are worth more.
Nothing weird there bro!

That's a remarkable story. As my Dad says, "What's a sick chicken worth? Whatever someone who wants one will pay for it!"
My neighbors' dogs aren't up yet.

That was not intended to imply any resemblance between your engineering project and a sick chicken. More coffee, please?

I know, I know - market worth is set by supply availability and the will of the market

I understand. If someone showed up and offerred $1,000 for the cross-stitch picture I've been working on for the last five years, that would be weird, too. But it's got that many hours in it!

Wouldn't a second one take you less time than the first, since you've done all the analysis and worked out the best way to do it?

1. each one is different, though similar. the measurements are custom to the wielder, and the curve is somewhat influenced by the grain.
2. this current bokken is the fifth bokken I have made in the last ten years
3. though it has been a while, I'm no stranger to working metal by hand
so, nope: any subsequent bokken will take about 100 hours to fabricate.

tell 'em "If KP is up at this hour, you can jolly well get up too!"
they won't grok. this will make their lives somewhat more surreal. thus your day's labor shall be accomplished at the outset.

Niche
I have very many edged tools; no edged weapons but have a lot of respect for them.
You could make a business building these things and enjoy work everyday.
Cool.

Prout says being groggy can help you understand people who are similarly challenged by lack of sleep or alcoholic fog.
I'm still thinking about that one. *--sip--*

I think you could go a long way toward justifying that kind of expense if you would consider
getting some help with the tsuba.
That would give you a chance to stockpile a standard customized guard for the weapons you make, and give it a more finished, artful appearance.
