WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Thank You. Happy, Happy to you!
I'll be glad when I get into my own place so I don't have to do drive-bys. I've missed a lot of fun, but I HAVE lurked, so I've read your excellent poetry. Keep up the good work!
My pleasure to share. ;)
Thank You.
Tomorrow afternoon.
I don't know....what are you doing today?
:o[
How long did you say they would be gone? I forgot.
(Two things happen to you when you start to get older. 1) You forget things, and 2) I can't remember the other thing...)
You sound like my daughter.
To my knowlwdge, we're doing nothing. If they have plans, they haven't told me of them, and I suspect I'll be staying home, in any case. Just because I can.
I've had more practice saying it than she has...:oP
Happy 4th to yoo!
I agree! I have often thought that..........that.......
never mind.
My poem for the day (third place I've posted it:)
Let us remember today
how high the cost of liberty,
how hard the dream of freedom,
how sweet the rewards of opportunity,
how precious the concept.
Pass it down,
how men chose to stand for an idea
of self-determination of liberty,
and were willing, when called,
to buy that dream with their life.
This dream is not for tyrants,
not bound by color or creed or race,
but bound by justice, honor, and hope.
Yes, we have not always lived up to our dream,
but it still burns brightly,
fed with the blood of our sons and daughters,
a torch to light the night -
unalienable truths,
liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness
framed by the consent of the governed
in a striving for justice.
Pass it down,
this torch bought dearly,
and guard it with all your might,
for the winds of darkness ever strive to put it out.
BRAVO!
However, I'm taking two weeks vacation from Aug 11th through the 25th. So that isn't so bad.
LOL!
You funny!
Didn't you visit them...wait...it's all coming back to me now...you visited over Thanksgiving and/or Christmas when they were there before, right?
Just think: You'll have another honeymoon...or two...
;o]
Very well stated. That is our purpose today ... and every day.
We live in a time when ideas are in conflict. When did we not?
But how can anyone object to freedom, opportunity, equality?
... It seems some people just can't get enough of being told what to do. Wonder why they won't listen to us?
They sometimes want to be the tellers...and not just of tales...
Our world has matured from tribalism, through fiefdoms and kingdoms, to nation states and trans-national unions.
Ironic that that maturity can now be threatened by a primitive tribalism again.
And not just from outside our borders.
If I remember correctly, all nations rise and fall because of a certain chain of events. They may be different from eom nation to nation, but I think we are seeing the beginning of the end for several Muslim nations.
Correct me if I'm wrong...
