Prayer Vigil For the Immigration Crisis

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. 1 Timothy 2: 1-2, RSV

Dear FRiends, I invite you to join us in a 24 hour a day prayer vigil to ask God's help and protection and guidance on the immigration issue before Congress.

Let us place our country's needs before our Father's throne of grace that the right actions will be taken to protect our country and keep it safe.

We are asking for people to be willing to pray for at least 1/2 hours blocks. I will organize this on a 7 day schedule, to continue to rotate until the crisis is resolved. If you can, please consider pledging at the same time each day, but if you can't let me know your schedule. It will go on until this issue is settled.

If you want to pledge, let me know your time choices, and let me know your time zone!

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

Thought...

Finding fault in someone else is so easy for most of us.   Finding fault in ourselves is much trickier.   Jesus reminds us that we must deal with the shortcomings and sins in our own lives before we start telling others how to live.   Seems pretty simple, doesn't it?   But we all know it isn't.


Prayer...

Father, please forgive me when I am severe, harsh, and judgmental toward others.   I know there are problems in my own life that need the work of your Holy Spirit.   I confess that there are routine sins that I find myself excusing more and more.   Please, dear LORD, forgive my sin and empower me to move beyond it.
In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Dear Lord,
We come before your presence knowing you are the one who holds all things in your hands.

Be with our leaders this day. We ask you to heal the hurt of those who are bitter, soothe the anger of those overcome with rage and breathe your wisdom into their hearts, so they will act like leaders who know the future will be shaped by their actions.

Lord, we ask you to watch over our military, so that the men and women deployed might come back into the welcome embrace of their families.

Help those who guard our nation's safety in their work.

O Lord, our light, our truth, our way, guide us always.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Folks In Heaven

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
as I entered Heaven's door,
not by the beauty of it all,
not by the lights or decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
who made me sputter and gasp--
the thieves, the liars, the sinners,
the alcoholics, the trash.

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You that You have gathered unto Yourself a community of believers to plead the cause of our nation before the Throne of Grace. May blessings abundant fall upon each one as we speak our anguish and despair and hope.

Grant unto those in authority over us, divine wisdom and strength of purpose, that laws made or enforced would be to enhance the safety of our beloved country. Turn aside attempts for personal gain or power ... let our hearts be guided by the Rule of Law and decency and order, for chaos and confusion comes from the camp of the enemy.

(I am down this morning with a really horrendous headache. I'm not sure how much I will be posting)

O Lord, our Father,
We turn to you
to ask your guidance, your blessing, your aid,
especially on those who lead our country.

May we be guided by your wisdom
to see beyond the realm of political gain
one person besting another in a national war
that leaves us open to destruction,
and instead, by your light
make the decisions most in line with your will.

Lord, when you look at this nation and all its faults, look mostly at the heart of those who love you and who are here to be your servants, doing your work.

And teach us, in spite of all the wrong around us, to love the way you want us to.

Lord, we call upon you once again.

You have given us another day, and another opportunity to do your will.

On this day we pray for our nations and our leaders, that they be not dismayed at negative rhetoric, but hearken to your word and stand for the right.

Lead them to do their jobs as you would have them do. Guide them with your wisdom and protect them from those who would lead them down paths that would harm our nation.
