'X Men 3' Hits History Books (DaVinci Code Box Office Down 67%)

"X Men 3: The Last Stand" took in almost $45 million on Friday and landed in the history books. It is now the second highest opener of all time, right behind "Star Wars: Attack of the Sith."

Insiders are predicting that the Brett Ratner directed third episode in the X Men trilogy could do as much as $150 million over the four day Memorial Day weekend. Word of mouth and "tracking" are so strong that "X Men 3," with no real rivals, should shatter all kinds of records by time the numbers are in officially on Tuesday.

Meantime, audiences may be cooling off to normal levels for "The Da Vinci Code." After a monster first weekend, Friday night's numbers--a respectable $10.2 million--were off by two thirds from a week ago when the movie opened. "Da Vinci" could still have a very good weekend, and luckily it made its money back with that strong start.

You got the first two muddled.

Chronological #1 (#4 in release terms) is The Phantom Menace.

Chronological #2, #5 release, is Revenge of the Clones.

Okay, I'll ask: what the HELL are "pirate-shaped marshmallows"?

The things on the box that I presume represent the PSMs look like hearts and pentagons.

The door was open...but not very wide.

The most important question is of course: when Rogue's powers return, will she and Bobby realize the opportunity Leech provides? Bobby: "Hey, thanks for coming. Um, if you could just put on the blindfold and earplugs, and stay right there for about 10 minutes..." Rogue: "10?!"

Some studio has the rights to make a sandman movie (based on the story line in which he gets the keys to hell and then tries to find out who to give it too).

I can't imagine a movie being any good and I really liked sandman.

LOL!

On close inspection they appear to be attempts to recreate scabbards, ships' wheels (is there a better word for those?), those funny-looking pirate hats, ships, and maps (I'm assuming -- these are beige squares with x's on them).

(All terms should probably be in "quotes" -- the renditions are really poor -- i.e. the scabbards look more like clogs, etc.)

(LOL)

Ah, that we live in an age that can produce clog-shaped marshmallows . . . what a country! ;)

Well, considering that it's Memorial Day weekend, you can even do do without looking goofy.

= )

Oh, say, can you see...

Just saw "X-Men: The Last Stand" today.

In my opinion, the first movie was so-so, the second one was very good, this one is awesome. In every sense of the word - phenomenal acting by Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and that other chick who's the key to the plot, but whose name escapes me. Kelsey Grammer is a very believable Beast and he has the exact presence that his character demands - and that voice is perfect for it.

The story is not betrayed by cutesy acting and the suspension of disbelief is impressive (think 'Lord of the Rings').

The final 15 minutes or so contains one of the most fantastic - and 100% realistic special effects scenes ever filmed. I don't want to say more so as not to spoil the surprise - when you see it you will know what I am talking about...

Halle Berry is OK but it was Mystique and Jean that are the eye candy for me...

Funny, but not having gone into the movie with any predisposition about seeing political messages, I didn't see any.

I think you are spending wayyyy too much time obsessing. This was a comic book brought to life. If there was a political message it flew right over my head (which means its in the stratosphere for most sheeple)..

P.S. Yeah, I am no more approving of Sir Ian McKellen's very open deviancy than you are, but as an actor he is impossible to take your eyes off of - a pleasure to watch. Patrick Stewart - an excellent character actor in his own right - looks downright wooden next to McKellen.
