Elizabeth Taylor Has Alzheimer's

(BANG) - Elizabeth Taylor is reportedly suffering from Alzheimer's disease. According to reports, the Oscar-winning legend - who has been suffering from dementia for several months - has in fact been struck down by thedegenerating illness.
A friend told: "Elizabeth is now beingtreated for early stages of Alzheimer's...At this point there is very little that can be done. She confided to her specialists that she finds herself more and more confused."
The 74-year-old screen legend, who has survived a brain tumour and severalstrokes, is alleged to often feel delusional because of the condition which affects the memory of sufferers.
The source added: "Liz wakes up sometimes and really doesn't know where she is and she's scared."

Lighten up, Francis. She's an actress who wasn't very good, lived a strange life that included some good, but a lot of insanity, and she's been a drug abuser for at least the past 40 years.
She's not a conservative icon, or even a conservative friend. You like her. You're mad at me because I don't. So you think it's your job to let me know I'm wrong and you're right.
I have an opinion about her, and you have an opinion about me. The thread is about her, not me. It's fine to talk about public personalities, but you're not doing that. What's the difference between you getting mad because someone doesn't like Liz Taylor, and some haughty leftwinger who gets mad because someone attacks Jason Leopold? None.

Some doctors would tell you her history of addiction to alcohol and pills has a great deal to do with her condition. I've heard more than one doc use the phrase "alcoholic dementia" when referring to similar patients.
They know alcohol destroys brain cells so at a certain point, that makes a lot of sense.
Well, some probably wouldn't agree with you on the "kind" part but your story just tears me apart.

I'm with you. Sorry she has Alzheimers, but I've never understood the facination with Liz except that she's a woman freak who lived a sordid life and used to be attractive in her younger days. prariebreeze is ignoring all of the other remarks about Liz on this thread because they were nice and sympathetic ones. Sometimes the truth hurts.
I'm sorry she has Alzheimer's, too. But I don't think dying with a terrible disease gives one status they didn't have without having such a disease.
She's got to die sometime of something. I think all the fawning over her is unfortunate. She was an actress that Michael Jackson, the homosexual community, and a few childhood fans thought was great, but she was never even a good actress.
I'm not mad. Just disgusted at derogatory comments on a thread which topic is about a degenerative illness that will eventually take this woman's life. Will you write the same comments about her on her eulogy thread? probably...
You have a right to your opinion of the woman and if the thread were about Taylor's movies, career etc. your derogatory comments would at least not seem to callous. However, that isn't the case, now is it?

You should have simply ignored my comments, but I suspect you're incapable of not giving your opinion of people with whom you disagree.

She's baked her brain for 50 years. Isn't it irresponsible if we act like there is no connection between a lifetime of boozing and dementia?
Certainly many experience it without ever having abused those things, but there is no doubt that alcohol is a brain killer.

Ignore your comments? Come on David Allen, you wrote them HOPING to get responses. Not only was what you posted tacky and tasteless but attention craving. What I did is point that out and you've spent the rest of the afternoon trying to defend your behavior and motives on this thread.

Unfortunately, the probable connection between addictions and brain debilitating diseases isn't something physicians or the media spend much time talking about.
I seriously doubt that knowing about it would influence anyone in the throws of full blown alcoholism or addiction. Practical considerations don't cause people to get sober. Consequences do. And sadly, that particular consequence comes much too late in the game to be of any help to the alcoholic or drug addict. What that information can do is release family members from the fear that they're at risk, or next in line. And that is a comfort, I know.
I have no interest in sitting in judgment of Ms. Taylor or anyone else who may be afflicted with Alzheimer's, dementia, or "alcoholic dementia." Regardless of the contributing factors that may have been in place. The people involved will suffer dearly without my criticism. And frankly, I have better things to do with my time.
