if he designed his tombstone, I am suspecting he was prepared & it was cancer or something similar/devastating.

He developed TYpe I diabetes in his late 20s and was deathly afraid of needles. Eventually, the complications caught up with him.
Although we all feared it, it was rather sudden in our minds.
He was a dedicated father and one helluva soldier. He was only 36.
