"I thought Dan Brown already tried that..." He did not originate that plot. Nor, as Darks mentioned, did his story involve vampires.
The reason to invoke a long-term plot is because vampires are long-"lived". They would need an adequate enemy.
I don't want to get into what I think the plot should be about. World domination seems obvious enough, perhaps the concealment of another method of achieving near-immortality. (Something evil and demonic, no doubt, especially if you want the vampires to be the relative "good guys.")
Now, that has possibilities! As well as a worthy adversary or two.

pay fifteen bucks, get LESS than you pay for. Not if you pour a bucket of water on it! ;)

We use a very small cast iron pot, like a mini dutch oven, maybe about 2 cups worth. I think cast iron is preferred because it holds the heat better. Most of the casting materials I've seen have been made of heavier metal.
I do know a coleman stove works fine, though. Do it out of doors, so you don't get lead fumes in your house, and most important, if you spill it, you won't get lead all over the kitchen counter...or even your favorite workbench.

A cast iron ladle and a driven fire is all you need. Cast iron melts at about twice the temp of lead so when the lead becomes molten the ladle still has a long way to go.

Ah... that's a good idea, something like "Interview with a Vampire" only with more eras , yes, it's an interesting backdrop - in the sense that the backdrop wouldn't really exist - differing periods.

Lead can be melted in a blue flame propane torch.
but it takes patience, as you have to heat through the container.

Oh wait, you are not trying to make AU.
Wrong thread.

hrmn.
lemme go get some small diameter split-shot sinkers, and bash a few with a maul.
then I'll know whether I want to play with fire here.

Had an idea for a tale involving the eldest of vampires having to stave off the plans of what would be his 'son'.
Side effect is that humanity is saved.
There was some artifact that would have made a vampire near invincible.
Did I mention that The Eldest is the CEO of a corporation, that is under a threat of leveraged buyout by the same enemy mentioned above?

Oh, ok.
I notice how white oak is twice as heavy as red oak - thus a tighter grain, therefore can't soak as much water.
