Cecil Wallace awoke about 4:30 a.m. Saturday to the bawling of cows and the howling of dogs. The Buford farmer grabbed his shotgun and went running out the back door.
His son and next-door neighbor, Kenneth Wallace, also jarred awake also carrying a shotgun joined him. Father and son ran toward the pasture...
...Reaching the pasture, the Wallaces saw a cow, bloodied and torn, its calf standing nearby. As they approached the animal, according to reports, two dogs came running towards them.
Kenneth Wallace raised his 12-gauge. Boom! The larger dog hit the dirt, howling. Wallace fired again, and the dog was quiet.
The female kept coming. Kenneth Wallace fired a third time, the blast echoing along the darkened reaches of Bart Johnson Road.
The Wallaces dragged the dogs' bodies aside and tended to the cow, Betsy. She looked bad right ear torn off, the left shredded like paper. Her nose was ripped and torn. Two teeth were knocked loose. Not long after daybreak, Cecil Wallace took Betsy to a Cumming veterinarian, who prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for the Angus/Hereford cross.
"She's still in bad shape," Cecil Wallace, 73, said Tuesday. "She tries to eat, but she can't; her mouth's too sore."
Animal control officers have cited one dog owner with failing to have the animal on a leash.. They also charged the owner with violating the county's vicious-animal ordinance, which requires owners of a dangerous dog or cat to have it muzzled whenever the animal is off the owner's property.
Meghan Martin, who lives near the Wallaces, said she is the owner whom officers cited...p>
When I went to sleep, my dog was in bed with me," she said. A roommate let out her dog, plus a friend's pit bull, Martin said...

You are quite free to bring your idea to JimRob and the Mods if you like
but don't put my name on it.
I take this seriously...We are a political forum, not a pit bull, SUV or porno site.
Admin is kind enough to let us carry on this discussion in General/Chat.
That to me is an indication of the importance they put to posters spamming their board with dog bites man/cow stories.
You seem to put a lot of stock in public opinion
and very little in individual freedom, responsibility and accountability.
Thank God the US is not a democracy!
SUV? More like a 70's Pinto with the exploding gas tanks.
Another defective product created by man and one that ceased to be produced.
The anti-"pit bull" crusade can be traced directly to the founder of PETA. Those who have taken it up are advancing the PETA cause. Their nonsense has been challenged by the most reputable animal welfare agencies on the planet.
Here's a well known 'pit activist' (/sarc) that you can discount as well.
'Dog whisperer' says pit bull ban is bad newsThe article goes on to point out this...
Updated Sat. May. 27 2006 1:35 PM ET
Canadian PressTORONTO -- Ontario's pit bull ban is an unfair law based on ignorance - because getting rid of a breed of dog doesn't get rid of the problem, says celebrity dog trainer Cesar Millan. ~snip~
"In the United States, in the '70s, they did the same thing to the Doberman. In the '80s they did it to the German shepherd, in the '90s they did it to the Rottweiler, and now they're doing it to the pit bull," he says.
"So whatever dog is in fashion, people are going to blame them for things."
"Under the Ontario ban, which was passed last August, it is illegal to own, breed, transfer, abandon or import pit bulls or other breeds "substantially similar" to pit bulls. Owners who violate the law can be fined up to $10,000 and/or be sentenced to six months in jail. The court can also order a dog to be destroyed."
What the article doesn't mention is that the penalties are the same for having my dog unmuzzled in public.
Let me show you something ...this is the view from my front door to my blue van,
sometimes it's parked one space closer.
I do not walk my dog in the neighborhood or on any city streets.
I do this not out of fear of what my dog may do but of what people may do to my dog.
When I would walk my dog to the van, for instance when we begin our workday together,
I would invariably use an adequately strong leash,
my dog is trained to heel as we walk
and I am strong enough to control him.
Yet for me to walk this short distance with my dog unmuzzled
leaves me open to a $10,000 fine, 6 months in jail and my dog being destroyed.
This is the reality of breed specific dog bans.
This is the fear I must continually live under.
This is the hard fist of knee-jerk, totalitarian, 'shot gun' laws that punish the innocent rather than addressing the actual problems
So...the staff prepares reports and recommendations without being requested by council?
They proceed solely on your out of council request?
And re: your Freepmail...
All I need to know about China I learned on June 4, 1989.
And there is aways the possibility of someone who hates your dog's breed claiming that your dog has offended when it hasn't. This will result in a totalitarian state descending upon an innocent dog owner.
I found some of the pictures posted during this thread as most offensive. Remember the one with the gun held at the dog's head? For some reason it reminded me of the fact that some people hate dogs so much they will resort to baiting. Anything that promotes cruelty to animals is to be condemned.
Just to show what PETA is all about and that it has things in comon with dog haters:
"Did You Know?
From July 1998 through the end of 2005, PETA killed over 14,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals" -- at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That's more than five defenseless animals every day. Not counting the dogs and cats PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 90 percent of the animals it took in during 2005 alone. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing."

ROFLOL!
This is getting Hugh and Series!
I'm no Peta freak...I'm a hunter, fisherman and have OWNED dogs almost my entire life. I'm not going to defend PETA, but 14,000 dogs is a drop in the bucket.
As a country we euthanize around 7 million cats and dogs annually. It's a little spoken about national frickin obscenity. Meanwhile the dog breeding industry just pops out more.
Care to guess which dog breed is "numero uno" on the doomed list, ya big dog lover, you?

You won't be having any say in what pet I can or cannot own. For your information, I am not a dog breeder.
You ain't talking about my family are you?
I'll fight for my right to have ANY breed of dog I feel like having. PETA won't get anywhere because any domestic breed ban is simply unconstitutional. Oh you might be able to regulate owners and require liscensing, but you won't win there either because breeds can morph in the time it takes a bitch to gestate.
Its so fun to watch totalitarian liberal tautologists chase their tails round and round. Getting dizzy yet?
Buahahahahahahaha!
Ahh yes! We Bufordians shoot at anything that wakes us up! We also are known for taking care of our own dang dogs. This dog owner couldn't have been here long. But I could be wrong. When I got bit by the neighbor's dog for no reason but that I was walking down the dirt road by the owner's house, my Dad went over to have a word with the neighbor. The dog was dead still laying in his yard. The owner said, "I don't put up with biting dogs. Tell your boy I'm sorry." And that was that. My Dad came back with a smile on his face and said, "Mr. Davis took care of the problem himself". Of course, no one killed dogs for attacking barn cats. Poor kitties.
I second that!
That is one ugly dog!
All that spit?
I'd hate to see him drooling for his supper!
