Cecil Wallace awoke about 4:30 a.m. Saturday to the bawling of cows and the howling of dogs. The Buford farmer grabbed his shotgun and went running out the back door.
His son and next-door neighbor, Kenneth Wallace, also jarred awake also carrying a shotgun joined him. Father and son ran toward the pasture...
...Reaching the pasture, the Wallaces saw a cow, bloodied and torn, its calf standing nearby. As they approached the animal, according to reports, two dogs came running towards them.
Kenneth Wallace raised his 12-gauge. Boom! The larger dog hit the dirt, howling. Wallace fired again, and the dog was quiet.
The female kept coming. Kenneth Wallace fired a third time, the blast echoing along the darkened reaches of Bart Johnson Road.
The Wallaces dragged the dogs' bodies aside and tended to the cow, Betsy. She looked bad right ear torn off, the left shredded like paper. Her nose was ripped and torn. Two teeth were knocked loose. Not long after daybreak, Cecil Wallace took Betsy to a Cumming veterinarian, who prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for the Angus/Hereford cross.
"She's still in bad shape," Cecil Wallace, 73, said Tuesday. "She tries to eat, but she can't; her mouth's too sore."
Animal control officers have cited one dog owner with failing to have the animal on a leash.. They also charged the owner with violating the county's vicious-animal ordinance, which requires owners of a dangerous dog or cat to have it muzzled whenever the animal is off the owner's property.
Meghan Martin, who lives near the Wallaces, said she is the owner whom officers cited...p>
When I went to sleep, my dog was in bed with me," she said. A roommate let out her dog, plus a friend's pit bull, Martin said...

I am an insurance field adjuster. I handle dog attack claims in and around Atlanta. To say the least, they are interesting, and sometimes tragic, assignments. Most Homeowners Insurers won't write coverage for owners owner pit bulls or Rottweilers.

There aren't too many animals that could successfully get between a mother and her calf. These appear to be no exception.

Pit bulls should be bred out of existence. I'm glad these two got the dirt nap they deserve.

I bet the pit bull's owner will say that their pit bulls were always so sweet, and wouldn't hurt anyone.
Sometimes I wish we could just throw those people into a pit of pit bulls with a steak in their pants, just so they can see how nice their beloved breed is

Many Pit bulls are taking naps when they get dumped in the shelters or get shot by law enforcement. It doesn't seem to keep the breeders from pumping them out.

Ha ha ha! I don't care who you are, that's just funny. You can tell whoever wrote the article was amused. ;-P
Poor cow looks like it's ready to keel over, though..

If governments aren't going to logically focus on and throw the book at stupid, irresponsible & quite often 'white trash' dog-owners then they may as well simply kill at least half of the dogs within their jurisdictions immediately!
So-called 'pit bulls' (hello! there's no such breed!):
an important part of every liberal's politically correct hate list along with SUV's, smokers, gun-owners, men in general & fathers in particular, etc, etc, etc ....
BTW & as per usual, there's nothing quite like a good 'pit bull' thread to bring out every statist, fascist bully & thug masquerading as a conservative on FR out from under their respective rocks!

Pitbulls are forbidden to exist in most European nations.
So are firearms.
I wish America would adapt the precise same policy.
I wish we'd copy their tax structure too.

Some breeds have a worse track record of attacks than others.
It isn't because people report pit bull attacks but don't report Cocker Spaniel attacks that pit bulls have the reputations they do. There are a lot more pit bull attacks than Cocker Spaniel attacks. It's just the way it is.
Horse breeds have different temperaments, and so do dogs.
So do different breeds of humans, actually, but there's a minefield we will merely note without entering into.

So-called 'pit bulls' (hello! there's no such breed!) Which means, of course, that "pit bulls" don't really exist. They're just a particularly nasty figment of the imagination. And the chewed up kids, adults, and animals they regularly snack on are really the victims of mysteriously brutal self-inflicted injuries. Correct?

I totally agree, let's ban stupid people who own genetically unstable fighting breeds.

Most Homeowners Insurers won't write coverage for owners owner pit bulls or Rottweilers. That's a very good start. These dogs are ticking time bombs and, when they go off, they're only deterred by a large bullet.

Let's start with eliminating the dogs in the breed that are responsible for more human and animal death and injury than any other breed.
You know which breed and mix that is.
If private insurance companies would simply refuse homeowners' insurance to anyone with a pit, that would send a very strong message to these manhood-deficient knuckledraggers.

I bet the pit bull's owner will say that their pit bulls were always so sweet, and wouldn't hurt anyone.I delivered pizzas while I was in college. I can't begin to tell you the number of times someone would tell me, "Oh, he's the sweetest dog there is - he'd never hurt anybody" while the animal is foaming and snarling and throwing itself against the door or straining the owner's arm out of the socket at the end of a leash to try and attack me. And it wasn't always pit bulls.
To: Vicomte13
Aside from the fact that there's no such breed recognized by either the American or Canadian Kennel Clubs as a "pit bull" (& by all means go to their sites to see for yourself if you don't believe me), there are numerous legitimate breeds of dogs with - not only similar or worse records of attacks but & more importantly - a awful lot more overall size & weight to back-up their attacks.
So-called "breed specific legislation" is typical of liberals' approach to most things:
it's opportunistic & hysterical, knee-jerk by definition, plays to ignorance while simultaneously spreading misinformation and, most tellingly, turns a blind eye to the real problem.
So, let's try to buy votes by heartlessly killing as many otherwise innocent dogs* as we can simply because it's easier to do so than vigorously prosecuting a small group of totally irresponsible dog-owners to the fullest extent of the law.
Besides, engaging in such prosecutions would smack of upholding law & order ... and that's something no liberal wants any part of!
BTW, I'm a cat-owner who hates to see us doing the liberals' work for them & merely attempting to promote logic & sound conservative principals on this issue.
Every braindead, totalitarian 'ban' we agree to go along with just makes the next one they want easier for them to impose - sheeesh !!!
* plus, let's do so merely because we subjectively don't like the mere appearance of these dogs - what with them not actually being a real breed & all.
