Two found dead in tub with barbecue

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – There were still more questions than answers after police found two bodies Monday inside the bathroom of a Federal Way apartment.

Federal Way police were sent to the apartment on 3rd Place SW near S 320th St. after someone called to have officers check on the well-being of the people who live there. It was not immediately clear why the caller was concerned.

The man and woman, both in their early 30s, were found in a small narrow bathroom. A barbecue that had once been lit was in the bathtub.

Police revealed few clues or answers and did not say why the barbecue was in the bathtub and whether this was a tragic accident or something more sinister.

Other residents say the units have smoke detectors but no carbon monoxide alarms. Neighbors weren’t sure what to make of it.

“You really don't think they'd have it in the house. That is really suspicious,” said Carolyn Hendrickson, neighbor. “And then they had the evidence markers out it. It is really suspicious."

Little was known about the victims. Authorities have not released the names or relationships of the people found dead.

The case remains under investigation.

an accident due to improvising heat or an accident from using a grill indoors.

This is a fairly common cause of death of Hispanics in Southern California (improvised, cheap heating). I'm sure it's not much different up in Starbucks country.

Well... I'm not sure I see the problem here... hot tub, naked people, alcohol...

What were we talking about?

Lousy article. Doesn't even say whether it was tomato- or vinegar-based barbecue.

I can't comment until I know if it was gas or charcoal, and if charcoal, whether hardwood or briquettes.

Propane grill??? Blasphemer! Infidel! Heathen! Fafir! Philistine! Lowbrow! Cretin!

Repeat after me.... Fruit or nut hardwood lump charcoal is good... propane is bad, very very bad.

Yeah, could've even been mustard for all we know. We demand evidentiary release of the sauce!

Story's a little vague. Sounds like something to do with carbon monoxide, but really needs a few details filled in.

"Fruit or nut hardwood lump charcoal is good... "

While better that propane, in mesquite country, we'd still have to get a crew of roughnecks to take you out back and beat you.

My guess would be with our weather lately, it was just a
indoor wiener roast.

All Mesquite is fine by me for grilling, but for a good BBQ (Pork/Beef), Red or White Oak Lump, with a mix of 50% Shag Bark Hickory, 25% Apple, and 25% Wild Cherry wood is my preference.

Even when BBQ'n Mutton or Venison and I want really strong smoke flavor, a bit of Black Walnut yields a cleaner (less creosote taste) smoke than Mesquite, with even more intense smoke flavor.

Oh, I know.

This is just mesquite country, and the best BBQ is often not even charcoal grilled, per se, but the result of clearing and buring mesquite out of the field and cooking over the dying embers of the fire created in the process whilst drinking that cold beer one has been contemplating since sunrise.

Occassionally, we kill varmits of some kind (rabits, occasional chinese deer (no season) whatever), bury them under said bonfires in tinfoil with potatoes etc., and eat them, as well. Hard to beat.
