Which isn't a real surprise but I don't think it is going to anywhere near as good as they hoped and I bet DVD sales aren't that great.

It will be lucky to come in at 120 domestic.

But the worldwide will make it a moneymaker.

What I find telling is the fact that it took in almost $7 million LESS than "The Passion of the Christ" even though it is in nearly 700 MORE theaters and it opened at the start of summer rather than the middle of February.

It will be lucky to come in at 120 domestic.

If you look at the stats (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/), the opening weekend usually ends up being between 20 to 35% of the total domestic gross. Even figuring a rather poor 40%, it would still end up at around $192 million.

My daughter and I saw it as she has to do the review for her college paper. The theater at the 1:15 showing was about 3/4 or more full for a Sunday afternoon.

They changed some from the book especially near the ending.

Tom Hanks turned out okay but he was too stiff at the beginning, and I think someone else would have done a better job. After seeing the movie, anyone that doesn't think it is a piece of fiction, doesn't have a clue and their faith is not very strong. It was a good MOVIE, but I have seen better.

But this one is a strange one -- I think it will taper off more quickly than other films have.

I don't think there is a person in this country who doesn't understand it is a completely bogus piece of fiction now, and the controversy has a lot to do with it.

Paradoxically, I think the controversy helped educate people about the reliability of the Bible.

I'm not so sure that Brown hadn't hoped to convince people, however, of the feasibility of his theory.

I haven't read the book and I'm not going to see the movie so I won't judge it. But from what I've read about them they seem to go out of their way to insult my faith, and it's not like they haven't done that before.

It was a good MOVIE, but I have seen better.

That is exactly what our son and his wife told us this afternoon.
They had read the book before hand, so they knew about it going in.

Word for word, thats funny.

We have a winner!

We saw it today, too. Of course the book was better, but it was a good movie, much as one would expect of Tom Hanks and Ron Howard. With all the backlash around here, it's amazing we all got out without being buzzed by a single locust. A Baptist church group had a showing reserved, so they weren't boycotting it, not to mention there are many preachers who are using the controversy to open dialog and laughing at those who can't get their minds around that's it's fiction.

A number of "FReepers" were boasting that it was going to be over $100million opening weekend.

And ticket prices continue to rise.

And has major studio distribution and heavy pimping from ABC and NBC.

But then the Mass Media thought Mission Impossible was going to be a summer blockbuster too.

We had a mix of people from old to teenagers. I enjoyed the movie and was completely involved as I didn't really notice a slow scene in the movie.

I go to movies to be entertained, and I was definitely entertained.

Those figures do not reflect today's box office.

Which isn't a real surprise but I don't think it is going to anywhere near as good as they hoped and I bet DVD sales aren't that great.

. . .they had on Discovery tonight. . .a look at 'Holy Blood/Holy Grail as well as 'The DaVinci Code'. . .read HBHG a long time ago; and really thought it better the DC. . .

. . .that said, Discovery interiews authors of HBHG and others knowledgeable in History/Bible/Christian/Catholic History as well and separates much of the wheat from the chafe. . .so to speak. Good program, actually.

THAT said. . .and I repeat myself. . .think the Cannes critics totally overreacted. . .'protested too much' in attacking everything about this film. . .betraying, I think their own fear and disdain of 'things Christian and matters of Faith'. . .hence their criticism going beyond reasonable to a real mockery. . .

. . .Think these secularists resent this film by it's potential to generate an interest and appreciation of and for, Christianity - no matter which voice one prefers to hear re the issues presented. The film surely gives a 'gravitas' to Christianity. . .by an irony. . .intended or not.

The owners of these critical voices really do not want anyone going there. . .but even to see a film that supposedly could jeopardize a believer's Faith?

The answer I think lies in the 'catch 22' of this movie. . this drama actually challenges one to 'Faith'. . .rather than 'away' from it. . .while setting Christianity and Christian mysticism in the huge scope of historical/biblical history.

Personally think the Christian community should take a deep breath and think about it. . .consider the interest level here and take advantage of a good starting point for additional Christian education. . .and potential enlightenment. . .

The $200million figure you may hear is worldwide.

It is rare for films to have combined US and European release dates.

A number of "FReepers" were boasting that it was going to be over $100million opening weekend.

Internationally, it is over $220 million which is number one all time opening weekend.

I myself predicted that it would be well past $100 million after Memorial day weekend, I was thinking domestic receipts of course.

Domestic BO receipts is now over $77 million, I'm not sure if that includes Sunday's final numbers.

At any rate, I would say that the FReeper you are talking about are not far from wrong.
