You may do best to visit here for the actual cost per mile of ownership, as it includes repair, insurance, and fuel costs in its recommendation.

Edmunds.com has discussion boards organized by make and vehicle, then broken down by discussion on price, real world mileage, repair concerns, reviews, comparisons with similar vehicles, etc.

I have used information suppplied by Fighting Chance to purchase two cars and I highly recommend them.

For a reasonable charge, they will send you very helpful financial info on the car you're buying.

Both times I used them, the surprised dealers asked where I had learned about some of the secret rebates they were getting from the manufacturers.

Actually, when I was ready to buy a specific car, I presented a spreadsheet to the dealer showing him exactly what he paid for the car, told him I'd give him $100 profit, and it was accepted on the spot. No haggling. And I know I got an excellent deal.

Note that I have no connection with Fighting Chance other than being a very satisfied past and future customer.

Advice...
Don't go to sites featuring recent purchasers of cars you are truly interested in.

New buyers are loathe to admit they screwed up, and their new cars will always be the best thing since sliced bread...

The occasional honest commenter will be drowned out.

Get a vehicle 2 years old or so. There is a site (Google it) where you can take over leases people want to walk away from.

New cars lose too much value too quickly.
