"She's special," Almonte told the Daily News for Friday's editions
At 19, a knot-hole is special.

Almonte, a senior at Monroe High School, A 15 year old Little Leaguer turns into a 19 year old High Schooler. I hope at least he's a senior.

I like the way the news make it sound like he speaks english.
As of last year, he still needed to have his comments and statements translated.
Sports Illustrated got suckered by his mother about a fake illness that never existed, and this kid is still isolated (and now married).
He'll be a solid draft pick, but he is going to need alot of help from the vultures.
For gods sake, he is going to school and still doesn't understand or speak english and the media just translates everything to and from him.

The 19-year-old pitcher, who made headlines five years ago when his perfect game in the Little League World Series was erased because it was revealed he was two years older than league rules allowed, has married a 30-year-old woman. Maybe he's really 32.

He's destined for el Scrap HeapoThe odds say so, but any team that passes him up is just dumb.
I've seen him pitch, he has got phenomenal stuff, and looks well developed.
Its the other stuff that might ruin him, it won't be his talent, thats for sure.

* Cheated in Little League World SeriesYea, still has awesome stuff, I've watched him pitch.
Everyone around is a vulture and a predator, not that he is a good guy either, but the kid has skills and talent.

Poor kid. He bought into the never ending rumour that an illegal can be made legal by marrying a Latina homegrown...
Poisonous rumour that cannot be killed:
Marry an American and You Will Be An American.
All these people need are the facts. I know Mexicans who think that if they are paying FICA, it makes them "legal".
An MBA couldn't begin to untangle the paperwork needed to obtain a valid green card, so how does anyone expect someone who is illiterate in both languages to fill out the forms?
Common sense is right out the window here...

He bought into the never ending rumour that an illegal can be made legal by marrying a Latina homegrown...I doubt it, more likely he bought into the false belief that she cares about him and not the 7 figure check he is going to get when he gets drafted.

He won't.
There are so many leetches out there that will do this paperwork for him, not to mention whatever MLB team drafts him will guarantee that his paperwork is always fine.
This kid could go on a shooting spree in the middle of yankee stadium, and not get deported and someone would write a check to cover his legal bills.
I'll put it to you this way, this kid barely knows how to do anything other then baseball (which he is very very good at).....its not hard to figure out that there are some folks with financial interests in this kid looking to make sure nothing bad happens to a future meal ticket.
That said, he is dominican, so he doesn't have to anything other then throw a baseball +90 MPH to stay here.
And the college thing is just pure leverage, he has no intention of ever going there, he wouldn't want to anyway. He's being "advised" by various agents, about his future.
Don't be surprised if he winds up with Scott Boras.

Jeez, what a cynic.
The louses of Hispanic descent in MLB do nothing for their own people. Baseball is All American, these men are "survival of the fittest". Shame on all of them. They have been given so much, and give nothing in return. Extremely important here is to remember that most of the Hispanic MLB players come from Central or South America, and they don't give a rat's a@@ about their fellow man. I hope they all rot in the Pete Rose Waiting Room of Hell.
MLB just plain sucks. I wouldn't go to a game even if you put a gun to my head. Barry Bonds is a liar, a cheat and a fraud, but that's OK 'cuz he's a black man. Why don't some honest reporters, or at least sports junkies, go back and find where Bonds said, for the record, that he wanted to break the Babe's record "'cuz he a white man." Seriously, where is that part of the story?

Not his fault his low life father cheated.
The kid should be judged on the field and only that.
The kid didn't drive himself to Williamsport.

I'm sure he's a real piece of work.
He'll get his shot and talent will not overcome a bad attitude.
Just ask Doc Gooden or Daryl Strawberry.

With the exception of the Dominican Republic, your pretty much right.
A few of my friends who are dominican do talk about MLB players donating jerseys, fixing up ball fields and donating money and doing various things for the community down there (granted, they made their money here, not there, so it would be nice for them to give a little here to, but thats just my own gripe).
One of my friends is a huge Sosa fan (whom I absolutly hate and loathe) because of stuff he did for their town with respect to ball fields and paying for clinics and stuff like that.
As for most of the other countries, no, the palyers don't do crap for them (Rivera is a slight exception in that he actually lives in Panama and helps out his local town where he stays).
FWIW, Barry Bonds, not only is a cheat (and pretty much a racist to boot), but while he make not be big on whites, make no mistake, he is downright hostile to his fellow african americans to boot.
Along with latinos.
He is just as ass in general.
He is smart enough to know that he can piss on the media, if they say anything, he plays the race card and they shut up......though a few of them have called him on it, just not enough of them have.
