Duke rape case set for 2007

DURHAM, N.C.—One of three Duke University lacrosse players charged with rape wants the case resolved in time for the next school year, his lawyer said in court yesterday. But the judge warned he will not fast-track the proceedings.

The case "is not going to jump ahead of the line and be handled any differently," Superior Court Judge Ronald L. Stephens said at a hearing for sophomore Reade Seligmann.

After the brief hearing, District Attorney Mike Nifong said he does not expect any trial to begin before next year.

Suppose a Defense investigator greased some palms at the Escort agency and they gave the Defense the phone number they used to contact the AV.

The Defense would have no problem seeing whom that number was registered too.

Some blog payed to see who all Wesley Clark called. Just think what some PI's working for some very powerful people in Washington could find out.

Who said it was HER phone? It very likely could have been her pimp/boyfriend/escort service phone. They might have thought to cancel the service. Maybe it was one of those prepaid phones and it ran out.

Yes, but the boys had the phone so I am not sure what the mystery is. They would quickly have learned it was not working if they tried to call the owner or her employer.

They may have learned it was not working simply by turning it on if it was a prepaid type phone.

They said the service was canceled though.

that would not fit with the pre-paid running out.

To agree with you, it looks like it was someone else's phone. I doubt it was her first night using it though.

Just like the other dancer Most Likely had to be driving illegally. One of the first things states do when a warrant is out for someone: is to cancel block their tags (No Renewal) and license. It is also done when someone owes the state money: like the 25 Grand Kim Roberts did not pay as she was mandated to.

>>could have been her pimp/boyfriend/escort service phone<<

I think it was from her "escort service"probably how she received her next customers.....

My contention is that if one is brutally gang-raped, kicked, beaten and strangled - CANCELLING your cell phone service is not a priority when you're still recovering from physical injuries.

While I have never been gang raped, I have been physically abused and you are not thinking about details like phones. Of course mine had nothing to do with a pimp who could cause you even more harm.

Yeah. Had no idea everyone would be so quick to detect the new name.

The other guy had been around for some time: so I was just giving him his due. Tried a couple other names and they were taken too.

thanks

Right. It does not fit with the victim mentality.

SissyJane is probably right. The escort service may have gave her that phone or took it out of her first job.

Remember not everyone has the credit to get a cell-phone and some people don't want to be able to be tracked or traced to their own name or with GPS: location.

Tracfone will cancel the service if you report the phone lost or stolen.

Tracfone also does not keep call logs, according to their web page.

This could be one reason why the defense needs the actual phone.

You can't hide anything from anyone around this place, lol. I generally just read, and am constantly amazed about how perceptive FReepers are. They can ferret out any detail. The power of many, many minds focused on the same task, with the intent of arriving at a truth. Pleasant...or not so pleasant, but nonetheless, TRUTH.

So if you have a Verizon phone, as listed in the search warrant, 2 of them....can you use Tracfone as the provider or do you use Verizon?

And is the defense just saying they don't know the provider, but actually do if going by info from the search warrant?

Verizon has a prepaid plan as well.

Prepaid makes more sense for the occupation.

CGM's phone is a Sanyo, I believe I read that somewhere.

The warrant is confusing as to the phones, so much of this is speculation.

no doubt, you report it and they will cancel it.

But I am saying that a crime with the level of Brutality described, your cell phone is the least of your problems.

and If it is me and there is any chance the people that perpetrated that brutality could use the phone, I am leaving leaving it active. The Distric Attorney would have loved to find that phone in a players dorm with calls to their home town in New Jersey.

The strippers were acting more like people with something to hide than victims of a terrible crime: in my opinion
