Ummm, no..
Oracle aslo supports RHEL
"Not really if its windows xp, 2000 just set a password the kids dont know"
You are assuming they can set a password. They can't. They won't learn. Don't underestimate the stupidity of computer users. Most are unable to check to see if they are plugged in.
Every consultant I know, including myself, has a story about traveling great distances to plug in a printer that the maid unplugged. Cables and passwords are out of the question.
Yes. Most adult computer users are too dumb to use computers. Fortunately, their kids aren't. They would know the password within days because the parents would tell them. The parents need their kids to find files and install hardware.
If they wont learn a password then they are not worth bothering to help...
I have to go look at their site again -- when I downloaded it, I thought it said SUSE only.
But I have MEPIS, which I love :(
A friend of mine called recently to ask me to help him set up his new notebook with his wireless router. I was smart. I didn't assume there was a problem with existing wireless and go to router and PC settings and stuff. Instead, I first confirmd that he did, in fact, not have a wireless adapter in his notebook like he thought he did.
Never trust user information. My wife's boss was once screaming that her laserjet wasn't working. My wife plugged in the power and it worked fine.
"If they wont learn a password then they are not worth bothering to help..."
If that was just a few people, your policy would work. Unfortunately, it is the vast majority of users. They can learn a password, but they will give it to their kids the first time the printer queue is screwed up. At that point, the computer is no longer safe.
I have myself installed as Administrator on every computer in my building. When they forget their passwords (and they do) I can get in.
"Like I already said, countless times, that's not the vendor, its some mysterious "community" that probably includes hackers from Russia and China and is not a reliable source."
Well, since I know you NEVER talk out of your a$$, I guess the next thing for you to do would be to prove that FLP's support is not "reliable", i.e., publish some reports of users getting their systems hosed after using the patches provided by the community.
Go ahead and get them. We'll wait.
running 6 beta 3 here...ain't it great?
Running it on an Acer Aspire 3003 laptop. Everything just works, including network, wireless, and modem. Rock solid.
Hums right along, even with only 256 mb ram.
Ever see the Austrumi live CD that has the Windows password editor on it?
I've saved quite a few of my co-workers with that thing. Very handy.
"Till then you're just wasting everyone's time with your wild uninformed guesses stated as fact."
Oh, you mean like this?
"ROFL! Their supposed "support" is problably nothing more than keeping those old pages online at redhat.com."
"Ever see the Austrumi live CD that has the Windows password editor on it?"
Sounds like something I need. I haven't heard of it but I'll run a search. Thanks.
Forget that. I see they took that functionality out of Austrumi, but you can go here instead for the standalone program:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Then Linux, osx or otherwise there is nothing you can do if the person is stupid *and* root..
"I see they took that functionality out of Austrumi, but you can go here instead for the standalone program: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ "
I found the older version. That was pretty slick. I had fun trying to figure out how to switch from Latvian to English.
FLAMING DEATH, LOL. Still having trouble with the English language, especially those perplexing words like "probably".
I'd be careful following any links from these guys, especially the flaming dude.
Ha! And I'd be careful following links from you; you're likely to end up at Stallman.com. Because you have a crush on him.
Find that proof that the Fedora Legacy project is unreliable yet?
Go ahead and look. We'll wait.
LOL the first times I saw you post on here you were parroting Stallman like a good little disciple. I only link him because most posters don't even know who he is much less how far to the left. All they need to do is look at his political notes, which still haven't stopped you from pushing his software constantly with lies.
http://www.stallman.org
Ha ha! And you post it again! The guy is going to send you a Christmas card.
BTW, find those links proving the Fedora Legacy project is unreliable?
Go ahead. We'll wait.
