I'm switching so I can vote for William Donald Shaffer in the Primary, for Comptroller. He supported Bush in the last election and is TOTALLY against illegal immigration - a rare 82 year old Democrat.

I always felt that it is ONLY worhtwhile if they OTHER PARTY is ALSO Informed ( along with their campaign manager !) that they " L-O-S-T " your Vote!! in the first place!!
And then..when they party that was SUPPOSE to be
" Representing " my wishes and the platform that the party they SAID they represented LOSES!! I get the Real SATISFACTION of going up --shaking their HAND and saying,
" I do hope that it was MY vote that decided Your FAILURE in this last election....Traitor."

I know other people who do the same, just to screw up the dems. Primary turnout is historically low, and a few folks voting with a plan can have an impact on who goes on to the general election. Sometimes (if the Repubs have a good candidate) they vote for the most way-out lefties in the primaries so that in the general election the middle-ground folks (most voters in MD are dems) will vote for the more reasonable (Rep) candidate. Other times they do as you are planning, and vote for the good dem because he's a good guy and here in MD it's almost always the dem who wins the general.
I really want to vote for Ehrlich in the Fall - but I disagree with him on slots - I did last time. I really don't know much about O'malley. Duncan will NOT win the primary - he lost his base in MOCO because of his ties to the illegals (ie - Casa of MD, etc)

Schaefer feuded frequently with Governor Parris N. Glendening at the bi-monthly Board of Public Works (BPW) meetings, once calling him a "despot" and frequently chiding him. Schaefer frequently referred to Glendening as "Ayatollah." Schaefer enjoys considerably warmer relations with Gov. Ehrlich, the Republican who succeeded Glendening in January 2003.
This man is constantly known as "hard working" be many and now even late in his career he continues to be a strong poltician.

Controversies
As comptroller, Schaefer has regularly spoken critically of immigrants who cannot communicate in English, particularly a Spanish-speaking McDonald's counterperson in an infamous 2004 comment.
Schaefer also stirred up controversy on October 12, 2004, when he called people with AIDS "a danger" and said those with the disease "brought it on themselves." Since the 1990s, he has repeatedly called for a public registry listing HIV-positive Maryland residents. "As far as I'm concerned, people who have AIDS are a danger," Schaefer said. "People should be able to know who has AIDS."

That was before it was invaded by lefties and turned into an illegal alien sanctuary and a nuclear-free zone. I am a thorn in their side, not so much lately though - since 9/11 having to go after the national-level political swine and leave the local level for another day.
